To let my children run around in a wedding, a funeral, in a library, in a restaurant, during their A'level exams...

I mean honestly, they're just kids FGS. They NEED to let off steam somehow. I simply don't see why anyone would take offence or consider it dangerous, disrespectful, or at all inappropriate.

Also it is IMPOSSIBLE to get my LOs do to anything they don't want to, so what choice have I got?

AIBU. I really, really think not. I'm sure you'll agree.

hmm wink

no YANBU. children need to be children and the rest of the world need to be more understanding.

I just think it's wonderful you're giving them such a cross-section of life experiences. If you can get them to run around in Poundstretcher and the Tate Modern it would be much more balanced, and better for their long term development.

Troll or not. Children need to be socialised and that means learning to behave appropriately at certain times. It is your job to teach them how and when. Running around in a restaurant is just plain dangerous.

You could even go the whole hog and let the poppets rollerskate in the Tate Modern (yes, I saw this once).

Ahh now I see the other thread this one makes sense.

There's something vaguely reminiscent of green eggs and ham here:

"let my children run around in a wedding, at a funeral, in a library, in a restaurant, during their A'level exams."

YANBU. I frequently take my small children to the National Theatre and the Royal Ballet so that they can run up and down the aisles playing tag during the performances. So culturally uplifting.

How else are they going to grow into inconsiderate, self-centred and disrespectful adults if they learn such outdated concepts as personal or societal responsibility?

Quattrocento Tue 21-Oct-08 20:23:30

LOL at National Theatre and Royal Ballet.

You need to take them to a few concerts. They're "revealing Tchaikovsky" at the South Bank. Important to allow a child the right to self-expression, particularly during concerts.

I particularly like to take ds to the reference section of the library with his clappers and whistle so that he can express himself freely.
Last week I took him to church on Thirsday so he could participate in a funeral Mass of a complete stranger. It was so sweet to see him ride up and down the aisle on his trike while the grieving family looked on.

PMSL at worthy trolling accusations!

I shall be getting them up in about three hours, giving them each a pair of cymbals and taking them to my local Intensive Care Unit for a visit that the staff and patients therein will no doubt enjoy immensely.

ScareyBitchFeast Tue 21-Oct-08 23:05:42

Excellent idea. Will do.

Skramble Tue 21-Oct-08 23:14:49

LOL nothing like a bit of self expresion and declaring "oh he is such a spirited child". What you mean is he is a complete brat and you have lost all control and the plot.
