I can totally understand why you would abbreviate YANBU, or IYSWIM etc, but it takes no time to type, son, daughter, husband, partner, they're one word!

It makes my teeth grind a bit everytime I red DD1 and DS2, beccause I would never say,
"Why, let me tell you about my dear daughter, or my dear partner", it makes me CRINGE!

Does anyone else feel a twat writing these?

No, I have plenty more pressing things to get upset about.

Yep, totally agree, but it is quicker than writing 'husband' or whatever.

YANBU

I think it's odd too. Especially as I'm already used to calling my DP my BF on other websites.

I suppose nowt stopping me saying BF but you just do what everybody else does innit.

I tend to write "partner" or "daughter" etc sometimes, but then other times i've been jumped on because i wrote "step daughter" instead of DSD and it was implied that i resent her or somesuch.

TBH i do things that make me feel like a twat on a daily basis anyway, i've ceased to worry about it.

if you have more than one it is easier to type ds1, dd2, ds1, ds2 etc than saying my oldest son or my middle daughter, etc

potatofactory · 17/10/2008 15:51

Why don't you ask your DP and DCs what they think. My DH doesn't mind it. My DD's a bit young to care.

Report
monkeymonkeymonkey · 17/10/2008 15:51

I dont think about what it stands for, just that it is quicker than typing out the whole word.

Calm down dear. It's only the internet.

If you prefer to type husband, eldest son, middle son, youngest son, third daughter, second daughter, etc etc, then that's up to you, you don't have to type dd, ds, dh or whathaveyou.

I never read dh as 'dear husband', my mind just registers that the poster is talking about their husband. Ah, there's more worthy things to raise yer blood pressure about

doesnt bother me and have to stop myself doing it in real life at work!!

Yup Lotster - it's as bad as AF or BDing!

I sometimes use OH (other half) as I find it less cringey, but I would never use DD etc. Specially not when I was having a winge about them. I don't understand why any one would call their family dear anything when they have obviously been a cock!

Sorry i cant bring myself to do it. My daughter, sorry, was reading over my shoulder the other day and was "whats with the DS1 and DD business". When i told her, she fell about laughing!

Got a friend tho who has to stop herself shouting "hey DS1, its time to come in now". Think she needs to get out more

'Baby dancing' is beyond boak and it doesn't even begin to make sense.

If you didn't know the context then you'd think it was about that wierd dancing baby on Ally McBeal or something.

Can't we all just say 'shag' and be done?

Or even a more well known euphemism such as 'doing it' or 'sleeping with' etc etc.

'Baby dancing'... shudder!

To be fair I haven't seen anybody say it anyway - it's in the list for no reason that I can see.

I just type h, s1, s2, d etc. Quicker, does what it says on the tin!
