AIBU?

To not favour family in this?

I'm giving away something on Freecycle. Quite a lot of people want it and I recognise my cousin among them. He doesn't realise it's me.

Anyway he's very savvy when it comes to getting something for free and then making a huge profit on it, he does it all the time. So, I know for a fact that he only wants this item to fix and sell in time for christmas. I would bet too that he only joined freecycle for opportunities like this.

Would it be unreasonable of me to ignore his request and give it to someone else even though I know who he is etc?

doesn't he recognise your username?

who's the most deserving among the requests you've had?

No it wouldn't be unreasonable.

No I think that would be the right thing to do as some one may be in need of this item and be very happy to have it but he just wants it for profit...

No I don't ever talk to him over the internet so he has no idea.

Most of the requests just say "can I have it?"

But one of them says "I know a bit about things like this and I'd like the opportunity to fix this for my son"

So I think I might go with him.

YANBU - if he does realise it's you, you can always say you'd already promised it to someone else.

I know people will sell stuff they get from freecycle, but it's not really in the spirit of it.

I end up pulling names out of a hat with a lot of replies as I can never decide who should be the recipient!

lots of people say they'll favour requests from eg charities, nurseries, daycare centres - you could always relist

It's not just not in the spirit, it's against the rules. They will take you off the list if they find out you are having things to sell.

YANBU at all! I am a big freecycler and my pet hate are people who request things to car boot or ebay. It goes against the spirit of the thing. [gets on high horse emoticon]
