To hate the expression "let's party"?

Please don't use the word party as a verb. It's wrong. And if you are over 35 and say "Let's party" you are a tit.

AIBU?

Overmydeadbody Sat 04-Oct-08 13:43:58

Swedes - you are getting old!grin

Swedes Sat 04-Oct-08 13:47:58

I've been old for ages. But the cantankerousness is fairly new. grin

I had an email from a good friend entitled "It's my birthday not that we need an excuse to party" She is 48.

If they say 'let's party' and mean it in an ironic way is that ok?

Swedes Sat 04-Oct-08 13:51:45

vjg13 Could you demonstrate how you might convey irony in this circumstance? Please link to a youtube video of you saying "Let's Party", heavy on the irony.

How do we know you are not just a tit? grin

vjg13 Sat 04-Oct-08 14:03:27

OOoooh no, am I not allowed to use 'cool' either. smile

IorekByrnison Sat 04-Oct-08 14:27:14

I agree, Swedes. Your friend's email is very bad news.

Swedes Sat 04-Oct-08 18:44:10

Iorek - Thank goodness you think so too.

My niece is in her second year at Bath University and said she was going to do less partying this year. I forgive her because she's young, and pretty.

Who says this? It sounds like something from a cheesy American teen film.

BellaBear Sat 04-Oct-08 19:20:36

reminds me of the episode of Black Books where Bill Bailey says 'Let's paaaaarrrrrttt...' and Bernard cuts him off saying "I WILL NOT HAVE THE 'PARTY' USED AS A VERB IN MY SHOP!!!"

grin

TotalChaos Sat 04-Oct-08 19:20:47

and what does it mean? does it imply drink/drugs and clubbing?

Boco Sat 04-Oct-08 19:23:20

What are you talking about Swedes?

I say it all the time, with a cocktail in each hand raised above my head (with one of those fancy glace cherries in each and a tiny umbrella) as I weave out to the red sports car full of hollerin' mates, and then we drive off and I shout 'lets paaarty guys! Woooo HOOOO!'

There's nothing wrong with that and I won't have you ruin it for me.

MrsMattie Sat 04-Oct-08 19:31:17

LOL@Boco.

Do you have a cast of extras applauding you and screaming 'Way To Go!' as your hot rod drives off into the sunset?

Swedes Sat 04-Oct-08 20:34:48

In the 80s we called it 'going out'.

I'll make an exception for Boco as well as she is smart and amusing.
