AIBU?

AIBU to lie about his age???

First time posting here but love reading other posts .

I'm about to book a short family break in the UK this Christmas (from Xmas eve to Boxing Day) - can't be arsed with the hassle of doing the whole family Christmas round at ours this year. The break will be expensive but definately worth it hopefully.

My son has just turned 4. Would it be really bad of me to lie about his age and say that he turns 4 end of December so that we can save £70.00? Under 4s go free (I also have a baby daughter).

If the majority say it's not a good thing to do, then I will do the right thing .

Thanks guys.

Kimmy

Surely his DOB is in his passport...

UK hol - no passport.

Well, is your little white lie believable? What I mean is - is he a brute of a boy who looks like he's 5 .

If you think you'll get away with it, then lie. Holiday companies rip us off anyway. They charge adult price for children who are 12 ffs.

It doesn't matter if it's abroad because only the airline ask to see your passport, not the accommodation providers.

I'd be too worried about getting caught.
I'd lie say, on a local train or at the zoo though to get her in free.
That probably makes me totaly immoral but there you go.

You did say so

If I'm totally honest, I'd be tempted to risk it. It is stealing though and there would be consequences if you got caught...

Oh don't worry about getting caught.

If you do just say, "I lied, I'm bad aren't I?"

How on earth will they know his true age though.

Ah, just had a thought, they might ask him? hmmmmm - oh so what - lie

I would, as long as he doesn't announce to everyone "But I'm 4!". Telling him to say he is 3 if asked is awkward and not a good example.....

I have made DS older to get him on the lego Driving school though!!

He is tall for his age but people were saying he looked five years when he was three. He's really slim with a young face though...

Erm, is it believeable? I really don't know.... thought it might be more believable if I told them he turns 4 on Christmas Day and get charged half the rate? Does it even work like that? Gosh, feel like such a bad person now thinking up all these lies...

I suppose I was hoping loads of people would reply saying 'yeah, we do it all the time' LOL

I wouldn't tbh. I would be worried about him blurting it out for one thing.

Can imagine some friendly granny type asking him how old he is. DS "I'm 4". Kimmy "no you're 3". DS "no I was 4 at my last birthday" and on and on.... red faces all round

Oh my goodness me.... I didn't even think about that. My son has had delayed speech due to hearing problems but since his operation to insert grommets, his speech has come on amazingly. He does tell people his age when he is asked and he wouldn't understand if I tried to tell him it was a game or something. And I really wouldn't want to do that anyway.

No way am I putting him in that position - thank you ladies, I will do the right thing.

And thanks for your prompt replies... I'll get booking now!!

Love this board

Kimmi I would do it quite happily. I have done it at zoos etc..

If he says but mum I am 4 just say what we said at seaworld... ooh its his b/day in a few weeks and we have been telling him so often that he is going to be 3 that he has started saying he is 3 already.

Whats the worst that can happen?? you have to make a belated payment for him ??

honestly i have said before that I dont think anywhere should charge for kids under age 5

If people said your son looked 5 when he was 3 then no I wouldn't risk it

I definitely wouldn't say his birthday's on Christmas Day as that'll just compound everything as they'll probably make a fuss and sing happy birthday etc for him!

I thin it is the sort of thing that you can get away with when they are 2, as they cannot contradict you, but they are always telling people how old they are at that age.

I would never do it with DS as he already looks 4 and is only just 3. I worry about people thinking I am lying now!

Having thought about it I guess you are right ... decpetion is wrong

I personally think shouting theif at me is a bit strong but you are entitled to your pov

Kimmi I think most of us have done it at some stage.. but like Mutt has pointed out there are those who are morally better than the rest of us (no its not sarcasm mutt.. honest)

I guess .. let your conscience guide you

Beware your DS giving you away!

On holiday it was under 6 go free at some museums. And we did a couple of times naughtily save ourself a few punds on having 6y DD go in free. Then we went to one museum and as we went in DD, what seemed like very loudly, called out to me - shall I say I am 5 mummy? I paid full for her everytime thereafter!!!
