we have it. its great.

new house doesnt have a bt line, so cant have sky put in.

have said we should just get phone, broadband and then freeview. dh not amused.

TheBlonde Thu 02-Oct-08 18:35:42

what is the '+' bit?

spudmasher Thu 02-Oct-08 18:36:59

Does he watch a lot of sport? Some dhs really miss that....the bad moods from lack of sport.....

misdee Thu 02-Oct-08 18:37:52

yeah he watches sport a lot. he will miss the football i know.

but am refusing to pay £124.99 to put a bt line in.

Upwind Thu 02-Oct-08 18:38:41

YANBU - but it would probably be cheaper to have a freeview box and top up with Setanta or whatever.

MummyDoIt Thu 02-Oct-08 18:38:44

Oh, but the ability to pause live television! Worth every penny for that, IMHO.

Miyazaki Thu 02-Oct-08 18:39:32

yeah but you can do that with a freeview recorder...

Upwind Thu 02-Oct-08 18:40:34

Stuff never seems to be shown at a good time for me so I record series on our freeview box and watch them when I have a chance - then I can pause grin

AFAIK we have top up tv so could pay for sports channells if we wanted, but my DH prefers to go to the pub!

spudmasher Thu 02-Oct-08 18:40:56

It is a lot of money but I'll bet he deserves it and you deserve the contented dh.My dh just cancelled sky sport because he says he never gets the time to watch it which I thought was really sad because he does watch it a bit. We both work hard and life is short so why deny yourself?

Turniphead1 Thu 02-Oct-08 18:44:45

You DO need Sky Plus. It will change you life.

spudmasher, because we cant afford the extra £124.99 this side of xmas unless we put it on a credit card. or pay extra on direct debits inc another £12 admin fee to do that.

bloody bt.

if we go with virgin for a year, then bt will take us on, inc putting a line in for just £30 angry

spudmasher Thu 02-Oct-08 18:50:03

Sorry Misdee. Feel really insensitive now- you have just moved and that's expensive. I would not put it on a credit card. Token presents for each other for Christmas?

MrsMattie Thu 02-Oct-08 18:50:57

Nobody 'needs' Sky + - it's a luxury (a lovely on!)

misdee Thu 02-Oct-08 18:51:54

we are moving saturday. spent today looking at alternatives to bt after them telling us it will be £124.99 to put a line in. my jaw hit the ground shock wouldnt mine sp much, but have had to pay twice already for other properties we have lived in to get lines put in.

really cant understand how a property cant have a bt line. its not like its a new build.

misdee Thu 02-Oct-08 18:52:46

i know mrsmattie.

but dh is saying virgin is rubbish, and it will cost more than sky + in total.

i think he thinks i cr*p money out or soemthing lol.

MrsMattie Thu 02-Oct-08 18:54:34

I agree that Virgin is pants and that Sky + is the best grin

Miyazaki Thu 02-Oct-08 18:56:39

Somebody at work has virgin and hates it. Is trying to get out of the contract.

Sky + seemed pretty good price when we looked into it, worked out at being cheaper than the bt broadband we were paying, even when adding on the bt line...

Flamebat Thu 02-Oct-08 18:57:46

I covet any + system (virgin or bt).

I have to watch tv as it happens shock

misdee Thu 02-Oct-08 18:58:25

the sky wireless is free. skiy now do their own phoneline, but you still need the bt line initially.
its quite a good deal, and i do understand where he is coming from, but am hmm over bt line costs. which you have to have to have sky.

saralou Thu 02-Oct-08 18:59:29

have you tried phoningg bt and telling them virgin is much cheaper, they may bring it down for you!

we have v+ - it is necessary !!

Miyazaki Thu 02-Oct-08 18:59:41

Flame you don't need a + system, just a freeview recorder. can get one for about £100 one off.

Can pause live telly, record etc. S'great.

Chocolateteapot Thu 02-Oct-08 18:59:57

I have no idea about Virgin or Sky + but have something that I think is a Freeview recorder. It cost £53 and is brilliant. I love being able to pause stuff when the phone rings.

curlywurlycremeegg Thu 02-Oct-08 19:00:34

I got a BT line in this week (well should have apart from bloody Virgin Media being very out of order and cancelling the number port), they are doing a special offer £95 discount if you tie in for 18 months

Miyazaki Thu 02-Oct-08 19:01:09

there you go! Be the best £53 ever spent...

sad, but possibly true.

misdee Thu 02-Oct-08 19:02:24

but curly, they wont do that for moving house sad but i could try phoning again and saying i would prefer top say with them but virgin will be so much cheaper etc etc and i really dont want to leave bt...
