omg. pedants unite.

Actually, a hectagon is a ten-sided, six-dimensional figure

Would have to say something - that is soooo bad to teach children inaccuracies like that.

well at least there IS such a thing, but I fear it was not one of the shapes coloured and cut out by the five year olds underneath the LAMINATED HECTAGON SIGN

A hectagon has 100 sides.

I suspect no fucker with anything else to do cut out a shape with 100 sides so was it 6 or 7 sided?

Does a hectagon REALLY have 100 sides?

I looked it up but could only really find reference to it on the Oxford primary school syllabus website?!?!?!

Anyway yes, these were definitely NOT 100-sided shapes

A polygon with 100 edges. Apparently.

TBH I thought that I had learnt at school it had 7 sides and the name was interchangeable with a septagon. But it isn;t is it? I am misremembering - it is a heptagon I think!

HOW MANY sidse do they have mp?

tbh i would FUME at something like that

Report
morningpaper · 01/10/2008 21:35

yes Hula 'tis a HEPTAGON for seven sides

these were hectagons

stuff like that DOES piss me off and only adds to my evil thoughts that primary school teachers got thirds in english lit and then couldn't afford a gap year

Why fume? Just point out the error to the teacher in a nice way. It is easily rectified and everyone is capable of making errors after all.

Report
morningpaper · 01/10/2008 21:35

they were HEXAGONS

I know we are all capable of making errors

but you would think in a class of 5 teachers/assistants, someone would notice when you laminate the errors and display them on the wall

Opps - that is a bit more of an obvious mistake. I was thinking Hect and Hept easy mistake. Yes, she should have known difference of HEX and HEPT - but remember it might not have been the teacher who put them up, or it could just have been a rushed first thing in morning/last thing at night putting up job and the labels got mixed up.

when i applied for teacher training i got offered two places if i got 2 'e's at a level.
you couldn't make it up.

you need to raise it with the teacher...

Shows how much they look at the displays once up. I bet it was put up in a rush, noone noticed error and it has stayed there/.

Just point it out to them. I wouldn't have been offended if some parent had calmly pointed such an error out. I'd have probably blushed a bit, but my excuse wuld generally have been careless rushing - as my displays had to go up in my own time before/after school when I would have preferred to be at home.

To be honest at this time of the year some people are in a frenzy of laminating and a bit duff on the proof reading. It's probably been done by a TA so a quiet word in the teacher's ear..
Get your red pen out, I expect you will be correcting the letters home and amending the comments in the reading diary soon!

I know of a teacher training course (secondary) that cams onlt to take 2:1 but actualy takes people

with no degree

yes indeedy

mind there's no guarantee i will get a place with my 2:1 , they don't like carers at certain uni's.

so shall apply elsewhere.

Heptagon would pee me off immensely.

I can't understand how you can see that and not notice.

You wouldn't write trangle in big letters and laminate it without noticing would you? Hexagon is hardly advanced geometry
