I think that the "three boys" comment is actually very sad. It's not very tactful, but she probably blurted it out because she has never got over the loss (and I can't imagine that she was treated very sensitively at the time either).

She was really cross that I had sons, she wanted me to experience daughters, who she claims are manipulative, spiteful, unaffectionate and cruel.

It wasn't much fun being her daughter, especially as she had a son 5 years after having me.

Truth be told, it's affected my sister worse, as she has repressed any sign of femininity in order to not be as 'irritating' as I was. My sister actually isn't gay, but I think she would like to be male.
