AIBU?

To think X factor should not have shown that awful gang bang song?

I may very well be a totally unreasonable catsbumfaced old git, but having heard dd (10)and various of her friends singing the song a LOT since saturday, and having to explain WHY it's not really a good song to sing without getting into too much detail, I am thoroughly pissed off.

It's on at prime time when they KNOW loads of young children are watching, and they trailed the damn segment for about 3 weeks, I know it's a crap programme anyway but I just think it was completely wrong.

I was a bit at them showing that song. Not good for anyone to sing really.

this year I have refused to watch the auditions on principle.

Because it's all set up.

And people are exploited.

And they rejected me at the very beginning and I was meant to be famous damn it.

People are naive if they think that it's all making dreams come true and shattering dreams etc - it's a carefully constructed set-up.

it's the number of auditions that opened my eyes fio. Once you get through the first round you have to get through another three auditions before seeing the judges. So those acts that are really crap have been told they're good enough as many as 4 times, only to be put through as entertainment fodder.

No wonder they're shocked when the judges tell them how crap they aeally are.

X factor is one big set up from start to finish.

I knew before I auditioned that it was a setup. I just wasn't quite sure how much of one. I wasn't under any ilusions though.

YANBU, my DD is 9, it was played on radio 1 yesterday morning. I then had to contend with ( in the before school rush!) "mum what IS a gang bang anyway?" Me " It's when a band all bang their drums together at the same time " DD, " why would they do that up a wall?" Gaaaah! Stupid blardy song!!

don't watch the show but looked at turquoises link and am really shocked. No way should that have been shown when so many kids watch

but its a sad reflection of what is deemed acceptable in our society

I was shocked when I first watched shrek II that some of the songs refer to "The prince with the sexy tush" etc - where has kids innocence gone

noonki · 24/09/2008 19:41

I don't think most kids would understand it tbh

it always reminds me of Rita, Sue and Bob too which is the funniest film !

the x factor is pure trash anyway, but that blardy gang bang song has been going round in my head all week, just from seeing the trailer.

Having to bite my tongue to stop myself singing it out loud in the supermarket and the like..

Must admit I was extremely relived 8 year old DS1 was out of the room at the time becuase I would have had to explain!!!

agree noonki, and think it's even worse than usual this year.

The nauseating sob stories do my head in too, "so and so's goldfish died when she was only 6 months old and now she's singing her song for him" etc etc.

A gang bang is a party and nothing more. That's what the song (a very old song) is referring to. Any sexual reference is a recent 'definition'.

Report
kt14 · 24/09/2008 20:16

that may be true but itv are clearly trailing it in full knowledge of the new definition and how most adults/older kids are going to interpret it..

Report
imananny · 24/09/2008 20:51

course it is all set up

anyone who has a sob story (though all sad)ie wife dying in childbirth, girls mum of cancer, 5 kids by 5 dads and been prison - all get through

they put the granny through singing gang bang, who obviouslyy hasnt got a chnace in hell in winning, yet they then debate about the girl who lost 18stone and looked fucking fantastic and who COULD sing

and yes gangbang was prob not the best song as kids do watch it,though guess it was shown after 8pm - just
