live in social housing.
there are 2 now.
haven't people got anything better to do, than to slag other people of and judge then,
I live in a HA because there is no other type of housing that we can get, that has the disabled access we need. and we have a lovely van.
why do people judge others when they know fuck all about their circs???????????????????????

I agree, I grew up in a council house, which my mum still lives in. Doesn't make me, or her a bad person does it?

No, YANBU - it makes me really .

There's nothing worse that someone who owns their own home/rents privately and thinks that this entitles them to sneer at people in social housing.

Ignore them, they're just smallbrains.

Agree. It's shameful, really. It seems that some people feel they can say whatever they like about 'council estates' and those who live on them. Shows a distinct lack of class, in my opinion.

i wish i lived in social housing. i really do. it would beat the hell out of private renting with no secure tenancy and having to find another place to live so often.

for everyone who judges, i really hope things keep going as well for you and your life always goes as smoothly as it always has.

well said mrsmattie.

some of the nicest people in the world live on council estates.

Rah rah rah 2shoes. YANBU.

What people who own their own home don't understand - it's an asset, one which they are fortunate to have.

Janos · 22/09/2008 15:31

Sorry if I can just clarify - I know not ALL homeowners have this attitude and didn't mean to imply that they did.

Both my parents came from council houses, my Dad is now back in a council house. It's just ignorance and snobbery when people judge imo

I live in a council property and I'm not ashamed of it either. We'd love to buy our own home but we just can't do it, we can't get a mortgage.

Apart from a few 'choice' kids, the area is nice and the neighbours are nice and friendly too, I could leave here and privately rent and end up living next door to the local scum.

I wish people wouldn't judge or look down their noses at those in council housing and HA properties

That thread about the barrat's home is bonkers!

We all have our own struggles, live and let live I say.

Of course you're not being unreasonable.

People who make sweeping statements about people who live in social housing are unpleasant snobs. I dread to think what sort of values those types are imparting to their children.

Lizzylou · 22/09/2008 15:42

We live in a supposed "nice" area, where there have been 3 people (3 seperate houses) imprisoned (fraud and suchlike).

YANBU, a remember a friend of a friends sister, saying she would never bring a baby up in a council house then someone pointed out to her that her parents lived in one thicko.

Ignore them, and their tiny minds

No I agree with you completely. It is nasty begrudgery.

It's not a character attribute I would be advertising if I felt that way.

I hate the assumption that if you aren't starving to death and dressed in rags you must be cheating the system. People are resourceful and spend money on whatever is most important to them.

I don't give a flying fcuk what other people spend their money on. I wish I had more. If I get cross, it'd be with the government, for wasting money on tribunals, space exploration etc... things that mean nothing to mean. But chanelling such bile at your fellow neighbour is absolutely egregious behaviour.

YANBU. i think what the problem is is that they seem to believe that you must be unemployed to get social housing and that you get all your rent free

i had my name down untill i met dh and he had just bought a house. my friend has her name down for one because their are so many crappy landlords you are better off in social. trust me. my landlord is one of those crappy landlords. its coming to winter and our heating, which broke down last year is still not fixed he is in the process of 'seeing if he can find a cheap radiator that fits' the bedroom as the one in there is that old it has rotted away at the bottom. would never happen in social housing.

I quite agree, I personally cant stand people that judge others due to where they live.

We live in a ha house, both work and take care of our lo.

Would love to buy a house to be able to secure a future for our daughter but with current prices we cant!!

We cant afford ot orivate rent without help with the rent either.

Some people are just more fortunate than others.

Who knows though one day we may be able to afford to buy a house but one of those people so busy judging others may be struggling financially and have to move into social housing!!! As someone said you never know what is round the corner.

So I say to though judging others grow up and let everyone get on with their own lives.

Not everyone in social housing are scumbags, the majority are lovely ordinary people.

Sorry to go on but threads judging others really get my back up!!!!
