Saw some ladies wearing them to a wedding and they really look absurd.

what are they?

WaynettaSlob Sat 20-Sep-08 17:55:24

As with hats, you need to be able to 'carry' one - and some people should never be allowed wear one!!

And yes, they do sound like sex toys!!! grin

YANBU. Totally stupid. Either wear a proper hat or don't. Not at all stylish to have bits of feather etc wafting around head in manner of "deely bopper" type headbands once v popular amongst small children in early 80's.

there are some nice ones around. better than a hat if you don't want hat hair at the evening do.

I hate them all. I am not a native american and don't need a load of feathers to tell someone I am at a wedding.

They looked especially ridiculous on the larger, older ladies in the wedding party.

findtheriver Sat 20-Sep-08 18:56:45

YANBU, and yes they sound exactly like a sex toy.

"She looked up coyly, brushing her fingers against her fascinator..."

Ronaldinhio Sat 20-Sep-08 19:08:48

YANBU, I think they mark out all those who will not be fascinating

lizandlulu Sat 20-Sep-08 19:21:43

ahh i like them, its not very often i get to dress up but i only wear them at weddings. hats do nothing for me, but i do like a good fascinator.

although agree about the sex toy namegrin

MrsSchadenfreude Sat 20-Sep-08 23:29:33

We call them Fornicators in the Schadenfreude Haus. grin

And it does seem to be the drunken slapper who wears them at a wedding.

Ridiculous looking things.

They are a fluffy hairclip macaco.

throw a hair comb under the bed, flick it to and fro, an dpull it out.

it will be covered in fluff and feathers and glitter and some old pants
take the pants off it unless you are v avante garde
now you can sell in in John Lewis's for £40.

I love them, well some of them.

I wore a really pretty pink one, quite small to a wedding a few weeks ago and I think I really suited it.

Each to their own. I'm sure there are people who do look like fannies in them mind you. grin

Expensive hairclips... thats all they are.

vjg13 Sun 21-Sep-08 07:32:18

It is a BRILLIANT word smile

I'm sure 99% of men if asked would think it was a sex toy!

AphroditeInHerNightie Sun 21-Sep-08 08:05:29

Some prime example of fascinators here
Frankly, I think you'd look better with a Rampant Rabbit attached to your head (and at least you can use it if the wedding gets a bit dull)
or perhaps a few sequins and feathers added to this would do the trick!

lovecat Sun 21-Sep-08 08:07:19

Hideous things (but then I have a small head and they look like humungous pimples stuck to the side of my hair)

vjg13 Sun 21-Sep-08 08:08:09

That torch thing is very scarey !! Put me off my breakfast too smile

For those of us who can't find hats big enough they are the only option.

GreenMonkies Sun 21-Sep-08 08:38:14

Some look ok, my mum wore a nice small one to brothers wedding, but for the most part they make me think of slappers at the races! I'd not wear one, too fussy and girly for me, but fortunately I do carry hats well, so I just tend to wear a big brimmed thing with a band that matches my outfit to weddings.

Aphroditie, those were dreadful, I don't know which link was the worst, actually I do, but thankfully I've finished my sausage sandwich (fnar fnar!) and didn't have a mouthful of coffee or a small child on my lap to ask difficult questions! shock
