Dd1 has just told me that today as they were finishing lunch, the school cook came and sat with them.

She often does this apparently, and she asked dd1 if she liked the cake that they'd had that day. Dd1 said it was ok, and asked if cook could make cheesecake for tommorow.

The cook said she has been told she can no longer serve cheescake as it isn't healthy enough. Dd1 then asked about cheese pasties, and apparently cook said that she has been told she can't do those either, but she still will be.

I think the world has gone mad if they think that a child having a slice of cheesecake once a week is going to make them fat or give them health probs.

I think it is also crap how they seem to assume that all kids will always choose the unhealthy option anyway.

Both of my dd's rarely pick chips when they are available, and they always have a large helping of salad with their main meal, so if they then want a piece of cheesecake then why shouldn't they ?

of course nowt wrong with cheesecake. kids need fat fgs. stupido 'health' ideas. they don't seem to look at the whole big picture do they?

dd's school seem to have got the balence right. they have healthy meals, plus fruit and/or cookies afters.

Not sure exactly what the cake eaten today was, but dd1 said it had raisins in.

Jamie Oliver's food for schools was great, not all cottage cheesy and lettucy at all.

We need to teach our children to eat a healthy balanced diet. I reckon what will now happen is that eating disorders will just start happening earlier. This kind of thing, combined with all the shit in the media (too skinny/too fat/diet this/diet that etc etc) makes me worry already about dd growing up and she is only a baby.
