who won't kids kids hair at the weekend!!

I phoned up 3 to try and make any appointment for myself and DD age 9 on Saturday. I can't take her in the week because of work. 2 of them said they don't do kids hair at all at the weekend and the other said they would do it but I would have to pay full price, £27!!!!!

I would be getting my hair done too and all I want is for her to have a bit trimmed off the ends, just a dry cut.

That's ridiculous. We had walk in salons where I used to live and anyone could go in and expect a haircut, adult or child.

dead common. why would they waste an hour working for half price during their busiest period of the week? it's business, ladies. either cough up adult prices or take her to a kid's hairdresser. it's not illegal at all - they'll cut it, but they'll charge you the going rate for a saturday cut ie adult.

Romy7 - the op said that 2 salons didnt do children at all on Saturdays (Irrespective of whether or not they are paying full price). Is this not discrimintion?

YABU, you would be costing them money and they probably don't have it to spare

just cut it yourself

They are a business and Saturdays are premium time. If you insist on Saturdays, then you have to pay the going rate.

If you want a reduced rate, take a day's leave during half-term.

Of course it's not disrimination, it's just a service they don't offer on a saturday.

That's like saying that preschools that don' open on a staurday are disriminating.

I imagine, Platy, that when they said they didn't do kids' hair, they meant that they didn't give kids' rates.

My hairdressers won't either and its mainly because of children who don't behave and ruin the experience for other customers.

I don't want to cut it myself and Romy, I wouldn't be wasting an hour of their time. I am making an appointment for myself too so they would already be doing mine, it would literally take them 30 seconds to trim DD hair.

I would understand if I was just making an appointment for DD

Upwind, how would I be costing them money???

Never thought about the behaviour aspect. Mine have always sat stone still lest the scissors don't go where they are supposed to.

It doesn't literally take 30 seconds though. In the perhaps 5 minutes that it would take, they could be doing something else which is essential to the needs of their paying customers.

Find an 'old ladies' type hairdressers for you child. They will always do saturdays as most clients go in the week.

Squeaky Pop, My DD and I are also paying customers! Its not like i'm asking them to do it for free.

you would be costing them money because the time taken to do your DD's hair could be spent doing highlights or similar.

On a weekday with fewer customers it makes sense to offer children's rates. On a Saturday they will lose out on people paying the full price and having extras.

Are you really incapable of seeing it from their perspective?

Squeky pop, not the £27 pound but the other two charge just £15 so I was totally willing to pay full price. DD is 9 and I promised her we could have a girlie day out together, she really wanted to get her hair done with me, and then we are going to get lunch. I have been ill for months and now I'm better I promised her we could do this. We then going to go shopping for some new clothes for her.

I told both these hairdressers that I was willing to pay the full £15 for DD but they just wont do it.

upwind, of course I'm not incapable of seeing it from their perspective. Are you incapable of seeing it from mine?

So it is the price you are objecting to?

Price is a function of supply and demand. On Saturdays, demand is up, and so is the real price. They may absorb discounts during the week, but not at weekends.

I always get my hair done on a Wednesday because they have a 25% discount on Wednesdays. It's my choice not to pay their Saturday prices and go with the Wednesday one instead.
