AIBU?

... to hate people that bring their own food to parties?

My dd has been to a few parties recently and I have noticed that some people have brought food for their children and I assumed that their child must have allergies or something.
I have just found out that actually they just don't want their child eating the crap party food.
Should I feel offended by this? Are they implying that I'm a terrible mother for letting my dd eat crisps and cake for her tea? If not, then why do they have a problem letting their kid eat it?
It's a one off, a treat. What's the flipping problem with that?!

It is very rude. When ds was under 1 I always bought my own food for him. Once they are past this age you must accept that they will eat foods at parties that aren't 100% healthy, how old was the child?

I think it's bad manners to bring own food, but why does party food have to be so shit? Would it kill people to serve up healthier fare?

i would be offended if someone did this through fussiness, as oppose to dietary requirements. and i would never dream of doing it myself!

even extreme fussiness should be explained to the host so they can deal with it - i have had a child come to my dds party whose diet consists of about 2 things, full stop. i supplied those 2 things. no problem

how oddddd

did you see cod's thread about the dreadful party guest

'where do you buy your food'

Unless they have a reason they can't eat the food e.g. allergies as you said then it is really fucking rude and YANBU. It shows a real lack of manners.

Also my sister had allergies as kid (she still has some) that meant my mum always had to provide special food and it is often really isolating and horrible for the child. I don't see why you would inflict that on a child when you didn't have to.

It's just bloody stupid IMO. I call them the rice-cake mom's - they carry them around everywhere with them

In my opinion these are the kind of mothers who will end up with older kids who cannot wait to get away from their parents and will soon be into all sorts after having suffered wuch a repressed chidhood.

Having said that, I ahve not ever seen anyone take their own food to a party!

YANBU - Unless the child has an allergy then it is just bad manners. Kids love party food - it's a party. Rolls eyes.

I kind of really disilike when i get to a party and the host understanding of party food - is shitty cocktail sausages full of fat, rancid carrots and cheap cheese. I get well pissed off that party food in many houses equals shit crap.

Part food can be fun and healthy too!

wahwah · 07/09/2008 18:30

FabioBadAssCat, surely it's not compulsory to serve children crap at parties? Even it was, times change. Even school dinners aren't total saturated fat, salt and reconstituted cockroaches any more.

The kids are all 5 or 6 years old. I couldn't get over it. I would never make my child be the only one who couldn't have chocolate and cakes, she would feel so left out.
I agree that party food could be a bit healthier, but it never killed me
...saying that, I wasn't at a party every other week when I was young either!

Only for allergy children have i done my own food and have made it as close to the the actual party food that some parents/children didn't even notice.

Of course its out of order for parents to bring food for their own kids. If the food bothers them that much, then don't let them go to the party or else provide food for everyone if they think they can do better!

carrots have no place at a children's party
shitty cocktail sausages yes
cheap cheese yes (not likely to be eaten, why waste money)
jam sandwiches
pink wafer biscuits
crisps
wotsits
fruit shoots
cadbury's fingers
catfud

We don'[t even GO to parties. I absolutely blardy hated them ALL when I was a child and they are still shitola if the last one we went to was anything to go by.

You turn up
the mums are really scary
the house smells weird

Nobody is in uniform and nobody is supervising the horrible children who pick on you at school

the food is generally shit (cheese and pineapple stick anyone)

those little sausages {yak}

prawn cocktail crisps

and some game where you have to lob water at the grown ups. Some of whom you really feel hate you.
Then you don't get your prize even though you won (and got told off for cheating when you just didn't understand the rules) and that is not even mentioning the clown who is so unfunny that someones dad has to have a word and tell him to leave out the swearing.

The party bag is the ONLY GOOD BIT

God I feel better now. Sorry

It is not compulsory to serve crap, nor was it in 1066 when I was young and we had such party games as knocke ye leggf from under ye cripple and pox chase, but children don't go to parties for the nutrition they go for FUN.

I would so much rather that my mother NEVER made me go to a party. Even my nice friends, i hated their parties.

Maybe I am just odd. I think she thought she was helping me learn social skills. I used to cry till she came back to collect me.
