im so jealous of all you adult MNers

being a teen mum SUCKS. yes i've heard on condoms and yes they sometimes split.

nobody treats you like a mum if your a teenager they treat you like a silly little kid.

i am a good mum! dp is a good dad! why does it matter that im 15! ds gets just as good a childhood as you do and i'm still a straight A/B student, and dp is getting a degree

i am not scrounging money off you via benefits, i dont live in a council house, my parents do not raise my little boy

SO LEAVE US ALONE

sorry i've seen one to many documenteries about crappy teenage parents. its not an excuse to be a bad parent if your under 18!!

ive changed my name to avoid the backlash of this...

I agree - it's not an excuse to be a bad parent if you're under 18.

But if you're really that proud then why namechange?

good for you
Yes, there's a lot of stereotyping, same as most things
You'll have the last laugh

Was just going to ask, who are you? And why do you think there'll be a backlash?

because i still want to be able to post on mumsnet without people not respecting my answers.

and also because i expect most mumsnetters to say im being unreasonable because i was irresponsible e.t.c and really i just wanted to get that off my chest and for one person to agree with me

I wish I was younger, I am soooo tired most of the time, enjoy your son and your life.

good on you for sticking up for yourself and proving you are good at parenting and studying.
The media just lurve stereotypes, and I would say that most folk who have a brain know this. Don't take that crap personally, you sound pretty adult anyway so no need to compare / liken yourself to it.

hmm, this post sounds like someone out to get a laugh trolling...

however, if not, then sympathies. i think all young mothers have to deal with a certain amount of this. as a 24 year old, i remember the doctor (gp locum)refusing to examine ds because he though i was being neurotic. his attitude was decidedly unacceptable. aparticularly as when i took him to a&e three hours later they asked me why i hadnt brought him in earlier. he had a broken arm
just nod, smile, ignore. and continue doing your best

no trolling i promise

i will tell you who i am if you want but i would rather people just see this as a huge flashing sign that we are not bad people or parents.

How would I not respect your answers? I cannot see you. How would I know how old you are? Do you know how old I am?

Report
StealthPolarBear · 05/09/2008 21:28

Oh I see you mean you are a regular MNer but people don't know you're actually 15?
Now I'm rteally curious

ummm we never said you were a silly little kid /a benefits scrounger / a bad parent. did we?

don't be jealous of us big grown up adults, it's just as crap being twice your age you know. mums are mums regardless - same sleepless nights, small people pulling at you, nappies, feeding, entertaining routine.

I'm sure you would get lots of support here but your post is a little aggressive and looks like you're spoiling for a fight - namechanging to avoid the "backlash".

well done you for going through with the pregnancy, being a good mum, for your dp sticking with it too.

If your proud then don't namechange.

Come on, complete a profile and show th world that you are being a good mum and are managing well.

age doesn't come into whether your a good mum or not...but you really can't blame people for judging. whether the condom split or not you shouldnt' have been having sex at all at 14/15. yes i know we are in the real world but at the same time it is breaking the law....it may be almost socially accpetable now but there does deserve to be some amount of disaproval shown.

When you see these documentaries about teenage parents are the fil makers deliberatly portraying them badly or are they really just crap parents? if its the former then complain. if its the later....you can't really blame anyone but the kids who appeared.

We shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush but im afraid stereotypes are very difficult to shake free of.

no YANBU i feel the same when i see documentarys about children being brought up in single parent families and with little money.

of course you are a great mum, your age doesnt change that.

StealthPolarBear · 05/09/2008 21:29

I am still 19 in my own mind, so only slightly older.
It's only when I think about it (or look in a mirror, or buy alcohol and realise it has been a depressingly long time since asked for ID) that I realise I'm actually pushing 30

Are you quite new? Or a name changer? I've seen you round in the last day or so
How old's your LO?

Report
gigglewitch · 05/09/2008 21:35

glad you changed your name back.

So have we established nobody's judging you here?
a mum's a mum, like the others said - no matter what your age, it's hard. perhaps differently hard at different stages of your life iyswim.

I feel the same way even if at 20 I am not teenage. The worst experience was when I took my nearly 30yr old and her newborn into hospital with my own dd with me. I was there for 5 soul wretching hours. On my way out a paramedic admired my dd and mentioned her 2yr ds my ds is the same age I said. I got looked up and down and told I looked too young to have a 2yr :/
