You might have shrunk. I have always thought i was 6ft2 [rubbing it in emoticon] but have lost an inch soemwhere along the way.

The same thing happened to me a while ago. I have been convinced I was 5ft1 for years. Nope, 5ft 0.1 inches (yes it matters!) Suddenly I felt like a Borrower!

you will be shorter at the end of the day

your discs squash under the influence of gravity

Do like my mum and best friend do...they pretend to be 5"5 when they are both actually 5"3. They both figure that it is so short that no one will bother arguing with their damned shortarse lies

You see this is why i never get measured. I am 5ft and not an inch less.

That 1 inch was an important part of my personality. I feel.....bereft!

Janos, but it's true that good things come in small packages - well, I tell myself that, but I'm not sure what I'm good at yet!

Same thing happened to me, but it made me under 5', I felt very small for a while, but I make up for it with a big personality

I can't be bothered lying. I'm five 2. Tbh, I don't think it's that rare. I seem to know loads of people who are only an inch or two inches taller. Or maybe I am just drawn to other small people!

Did anybody else read 'Look' magazine this week? There was an article about slovakian girls having an operation to lengthen their legs. It's not recommended here unless the patient has had a growth defect. But these girls were putting themselves through a WHOLE year of agony, mostly in hospital, and then physio, just to be five foot four instead of five foot two.

I sent a message to my friend on facebook the other day, telling her that when I read her Q&A on how tall she was I always ended up laughing, and called her midget.
She'd written she was 5ft 6, she's actually 5ft 4. She'd got her measurements wrong, bless her. She changed her answer to "I dont know, I dont do measurements... good job hey boys!"

What time in the day did you get measured Janos?

You shrink during the day (gravity squashes you) so if you were measured in the afternoon, you may well have been 5ft 2 at some point today!

If you were measured in the morning, then sorry, you are even shorter now

I'm 5ft 8, I am from a tall family. DH is tall but the females are tiny, not even 5ft!
My side seem to tower over the women on his side.

You are right PigeonPie.

My mum (who actually is 5ft 2)says that good things come in small packages.

It's just..the package is smaller than I originally thought!

Joking aside TNGIAM, that's dreadful. Imagine putting yourself throughs omething like that

I went with my female relatives to New York. Everytime we left the hotel they fell into line behind me and started singing "Hi ho hi ho it's off to work we go"
This is a very embarassing but true story!!!!

You may have lost height during childbirth. My mum did,she was 5ft & half an inch when expecting me.After I was born, she measured 5ft.

She still blames me for that lost half inch to this day-nearly 40 years later.

Teasing aside, how is your posture? If you slouch it could reduce your height, and if you are post-menopausal and losing bone density, that could make a difference too ISTR.

I have your inch!

I thought I was 5ft1, but my sister informs me that my niece has just hit 5ft1 and when we stood together I was thiiiiiiis much taller than her

So not sure how that happened, but your inch is definitely with me now.

Solidgoldbrass..

I'm definitely not post menopausal, just 34 and still have periods (curse them). Menopause hasn't shrunk my mum though.

My sister is slightly taller than me, but I have longer legs which we did not know until she had to have her wedding dress taken up for the length and mine was perfect. preen
Though it means I have a slightly shorter body, doh!

On the shrinking when pregnant, I didn't know that... but did anybody else end up with bigger feet. What the hell is that all about?!

I think you are right about being drawn to people of a similar height. I feel that too. It's an odd and not entirely comfortable quirk.
