AIBU?

to want to destroy the stupid people in the parking lot

there was a funfair at brockwell park over the weekend and yesterday was the last day, the only place to park is at the lido and it was full, but 3 families or rather 1 huge family with 3 cars were packing up to leave, so we sat in the car waiting, along with another car who thought the same, after taking 15 minutes to close their pram and put thier baby in one of the cars, with them looking at us and knowing we were waiting to park, they all then started a long family reunion at the car park, just blabbering for more than 30 mins, DP was very pissed off so we asked politely if they were leaving as we wanted to park as well, the one of the ladies barked in a coarse jamaican accent 'well you will just have to wait till we are ready to go' how rude!! i dont know where these people come from but i hate when the have no manners and are just plain rude. All the stupid woman had to say was they werent leaving yet or something and we would have just tried to find somewhere else, we just left as we had alreay wasted almost 40 mins waiting patiently. AIBU to be aggravated about this?

You'll all unreasonable.

Get out of your cars and use public transport. There's excellent tube, rail and bus links around there.

'one of the ladies barked in a coarse jamaican accent'

'i dont know where these people come from'

At exactly what do you mean by these phrases?

Run for the hills lilysmummy - you're about to get a roasting . . .

"i dont know where these people come from"

what difference does it make where they come from?

And if you don't know where they come from, how do you know the accent was Jamaican?

yes yabu.

Report
bellavita · 26/08/2008 16:12

pleasecutmygrass - my thoughts exactly.

Yes it is irritating when you know that they know you want the parking space. But with regards to accents or where they come from well you have no right to judge.

YABU, why exactly should they get a move on because you are waiting for a car parking space and can't find one? She was right, if there is no car parking space then you do either just have to wait until they are ready to go or you just decide to not bother waiting and go off to find somewhere nearby to walk. Do you think they were just taking their time to annoy you? That is rather self centred.

Bouncing Turtle is right, you also need to pay attention to the phrases she has pointed out as you sound rather racist.

You want to destroy someone because you had to wait for a parking space?

Report
Shoegazer · 26/08/2008 16:14

And just to add, you are being very unreasonable to want to destroy people who don't get out of YOUR way quickly enough.

Report
Jackstini · 26/08/2008 16:14

YABU to comment on the accent.
You should have asked politely as soon as you pulled up "hi, are you thinking of leaving soon or should we carry on looking?"

Report
fedupandisolated · 26/08/2008 16:16

It's a bit unreasonable of them not to say "sorry but we're not leaving yet" if they could see you were waiting though.

Report
Ashantai · 26/08/2008 16:21

Woah maybe i was feeling slightly on your side till you came out with the racist remarks!!

"i dont know where these people come from but i hate when they have no manners and are just plain rude" Oh but you are not rude are you

And why in gods name would you wait there for almost 40 mins! You dont think the penny would have dropped after at least 10?

Destroy people for that??, jeez get a life!

YABU and a touch racist

Report
AbbaFan · 26/08/2008 16:30

Why did you wait for 40 minutes, I would of started looking around for another space after 5 minutes!

Report
Lauriefairycake · 26/08/2008 16:45

Yabu and slightly racist

they already had their spaces, they can choose when to leave

nasty, nasty post imo

Report
memoo · 26/08/2008 16:52

YABU, they don't have to leave just because you think they should.

The tone of your post is slighly racist. You complain about them being rude but to be honest your attitude and comments are the most shocking thing!

Yabu, totally over the top and a tad racist.

Report
Shitehawk · 26/08/2008 17:03

Why should they move for you? They were there first, and had every right to stay there as long as they wanted to.

Horrible post. Horrible thread title.

Right umm did i mention the race of the person any where in my post, is Jamaican a race?? not last time i checked. i think all who were quick to jump on me for being racist you might need to calm down on the PC, how judgemental are you all who said im racist to automatically assume its me versus someone of another race ?!? please read it again, as the woman is the the same race as me, which is why i never said white, or black or chinese,or indian decent and i wouldnt have said it anyway as im not racist, i come from a very multicultural backround where we are very united as a people, not a colour like some places i know and the where they come from bit is in reference to the attitude the woman had, where is your manners and who did you get them from?? maybe i should not have phrased it like that but when i asked her if they were leaving, all she had to say was we're not leaving right now, not talk to me like she better than me,shitehawk, again all she had to say was they werent leaving now, ashantai i had my 5 year old twin godkids and my 16 month old daughter who were all squealing to go to the funfair, what was i supposed to do, not wait and say no funfair because people are just jabbering in the parking lot, when they knew we were waiting to park, why else would we be there sitting and staring, we tried to leave after about 15 mins but the twins started to cry as they had been looking foward to this all weekend i live in south london and brockwell park has a very small lido and parking lot, there was no where else, you can see the whole lot in front of you, so dont need to look far, Memoo i never wanted them to leave,we saw them loading up their 3 carsand after waiting i asked if they were i never commanded them to move!!Lauriefairy cake, i never asked them to move, yet again, i asked it they were leaving now as we wanted to park as well, its the response that got me, and they saw us and the other car obviously waiting behind them to park but still just stood around, almost getting in the car, some in the car etc and jux i dont care if you cant stand your DHs friend he must be an ass to be friends with him if he thinks hes terribly important, which i dont think i am, commom decency and a little consideration for the people around you was all i was asking for and also how rude to call someones post nasty and Ashantai I do have a life which i why i dont stand around jabbering to people in a car park if they are going in the car with me!!

but if there were 3 cars then they weren't all going in the same car were they? they could have stayed chatting in the park but you'd still have had to wait just as long for a space. If you know there's not much room to park there you should either drive and expect it might take a while or get the bus/tube/train/walk there. you/your dp could have waited in the car for a space and the other could have taken the children to the fair and met up later. if a car park is full anywhere that's what we always do if possible. don't really understand why you needed to point out that it was a jamaican accent though.

oh and tissy my partner is mixed race with some jamaican relatives and i live in Brixton, there is a very big west indian community here and i am part of that community, and have lots of Jamaican friends, jeez even my midwife was Jamaican and a large % of any public services like nurses are Jamaican and is also to let you know i wasnt judging 'where they came from' i know she came from i just meant it in regards to where she got her manners from. Its not a shot at Jamaica, i might be a wonderful place, you cant blame a country for the attitude of that one lady.
