Went to visit pil on saturday.
They live 30 miles away and we used to stay once a week. But we dont drive and had to get the train there. So we used to bundle the baby, moses basket, buggy, dog, clothes and all that jazz on the train.
My ds is now almost 8 month and he doesnt sleep in a moses basket. Sooo we bought a travel cot. It is way way too hard to get on the train with all the other things we need.

So we havent been to stay for weeks, first week in July i think. DPs parents said that they would get him a cot if we went through on Saturday.
I arranged for one on freecycle to be picked up by them. They didnt show up for it! I didn't know this because they said that they had a cot for ds.
When we got there on Sat. pils were on there way out to sil's friends 18th party.
There was no food in the fridge. Lots of beer though.
AND no cot for ds. Mil then said that because her brother was on holiday we were to stay at his house and use his cot - while they went to the eighteenth!!!

Now i bought them a carseat, buggy, highchair, babywalker, lots of toys for their house. Why cant they just buy a cot for him if they expect him to visit?

Soooo basically we went to visit them, on their request, and they went out to a party and we had to make our way to mil's brothers house to use the cot.

not exactly welcoming - what was the point of you going to visit if they were going out. Couldn;t they have invited you a different weekend?

that's a bit strange - why can't you buy a travel cot and leave it there? or maybe they could come to you?

What is the point in visiting them if they can't even be bothered to stay in for you.

How very odd.

Did your DH talk to his parents about how strangely unwelcoming they were being?

I'd stay at home from now on, and let come to you instead.

I'm not sure, his mil called us on the Tuesday and said that we never visit anymore, dp explained that ds has no bed, and she agreed that she would have something for him. When i sorted one out on freecycle and called on Thursday she was happy and thankful for it.She called at 10.30 on the Saturday morning saying she would see us soon and that we didnt need to bring the travel cot ( we just assumed it waas because she had collected the freecycle cot)

He didn't say a thing to them! As usual tbh!

Thanks for all these btw (sorry forgot to say that before).

I usually use dp/his family/friends as my measuring stick of reasonablness but they are so angry at her that I sometimes feel no matter what she does with them she will be in the wrong. They are not independant.

Dp is so angry at things that have arisen that it shocked me. Stuff I had never told him before.

why on earth didn't they pick up the free cot from freecycle ffs?

what was their objection to getting one for nothing so ye could stay?

very odd and no yanbu, if it's such a ridiculous trip tbh i wouldn't be worried about stressing yourseves out trying to visit too often when they obviously can't be bothered to do a damn thing to make it a little easier for you.

can they not just drive down and visit you at weekends? (presuming they have a car if they were going to collect a cot)

lol yeh they have a car!
Don't know, they haven't even mentioned the freecycle cot! They were like leaving as soon as we arrived we only got about 15 minutes with them and they were out the door.
