...am I being unreasonable (or at least am I alone) in finding the latest buzz-tag-line of 'Team G B' really quite irritating...?

Sorry...bursting with some degree of British pride here, but even so...

YABU grin

GO TEAM GB wink

Alambil Tue 19-Aug-08 18:13:29

But they're using it for others too. I've heard Team China, Team USA, Team Oz...

pointydog Tue 19-Aug-08 18:14:12

I like it because it reminds me of 'Team America', that var funny film by the South PArk people.

MmeLindt Tue 19-Aug-08 18:14:12

I was just wondering where the whole TEAM .... came from all of a sudden. We are moving house soon and I get mails from the guy organising it at TeamAllied. Urgh!

My DH works for a big company that also go on about TEAM...

It is so American

FAQ Tue 19-Aug-08 18:15:52

but it is a team - they didn't just bugger off to China under their own steam and only concentrate on their own events - they support each other (and even compete with each other, as well as against in some cases)

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:17:29

Yay for Team Spirit!

I hope that my children do learn about good sportsmanship as well as sporting excellence from the Olypmics.

Cannot wait for paralympics though - my fav

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:18:56

Actually I agree that the term "Team GB" is very irritating. It sounds so...new labour somehow...

[Takes cover]

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:19:24

"The British Team" would do me fine...

MmeLindt Tue 19-Aug-08 18:20:19

Ok, I can accept an actual TEAM being called that, but not a company. It sounds like a bunch of marketing type Giles and Tristans made up the slogan while out on the piss.

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:21:16

RR shouts 'go Team GB'
and waves red white and blue pom poms grin

hana Tue 19-Aug-08 18:21:47

it is a rebranding - and very american at that. I dislike it too. I've only just realized why the reading challenge at the library that dd1 has been doing over the summer is called 'Team Read'
duh

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:22:29

Katisha waves a glass of sherry at the telly and murmurs "oh well DONE chaps..."

escape Tue 19-Aug-08 18:22:58

OOOOh, you've just reminded me of my current bugbear.
i live in the ME, and here, a very popular sport is referred to as the 'EPL'
as in, NFL etc etc
guess what it is?
oooh, it makes me cringe everytime I hear it!

pagwatch Tue 19-Aug-08 18:23:18

<< pag leaps up as Ruby shouts and raises arms a la mexican wave. Stares hard at next poster who doesn't get up. Pag sits back down very deflated>>

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:23:21

arf

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:23:44

RR completes mexican wave with Pag

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:24:14

ME? NFL? EPL?

Mystified.

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:25:10

RR stands on Pags shoulders to complete clever cheerleading somersault

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:25:53

Sit down - you'll spill my sherry.

escape Tue 19-Aug-08 18:26:30

ME - Middle East
NFL - National Football League - widely known american acronym

EPL - not very widely used acrony for a particular 'brand' of sport

go on guess

Katisha Tue 19-Aug-08 18:27:12

English Pingpong League?

pagwatch Tue 19-Aug-08 18:27:31

<<pag should have mentioned bad back. Throws ripped up tickets in air to compensate. Pag and RR forcibly ejected >>

RubyRioja Tue 19-Aug-08 18:27:44

RR gets overexcited and streaks across athletics track

escape Tue 19-Aug-08 18:29:04

nearly katisha grin
lool at 'new labour' spot on
