AIBU?

to think that another mums behaviour shocked me

Me, my mum and DD went to a childrens day out the other day at a farm that it aimed towards under 5's, so everything there is catered for small kids and babies.

At the end i took my DD to change her nappy in the toilets and then took her in to the loo whilst i used it.

When i came out their was a mum with her son (no older than 4) who was screaming to go for the loo in the cubical next to me. They had the door open and his mum wouldn't let him go until she had placed single sheets of loo paper around the toilet seat !

I was really shocked by this as the toilets were very clean and well kept ! AIBU

oh I hate that! A friend did it in my house!!! seriously! OK I am not the tidiest person but I was shocked. She's always had a thing about sitting on toilet seats and now she's passing it on to her children!

some people have toilet phobias!
MY DH does this too!
I just hover my DS if the toilet doesn't look clean.

i agree ! Besides the toilets are prob the cleanest place in a farm full of animals ! I was angry at myself for being shocked ! But i have never seen it before,, I have seen adults do it and know adults who do - but doing it for a 4 yr old that really needs to go ! Don't understand it.

My sister has to do this before she uses a loo. You weren't in cornwall were you?

he he ... no hercules1 ! I know some public toilets that have a little 'loo cover seat' dispenser !

Oh i never sit on public loos, just hover. Just can't do it. I will sit on my friends and families toilets though.

YANBU - if the child was that desperate to go she should have just hovered him over the loo.

BTW - the best loo seat covers are in Miami airport - they are electric! You press a button with your foot and they slide round so you have a clean bit to sit on!!!

I understand why adults chose not to...but a little boy really needing to go.

My best mate wont sit on public toilets seats either... i can understand why people dont want to.

Maybe we should follow france... they have those standind up ones with to little places to put your feet ! No so handy for number 2's or when your on your period tho....lol

Well, she's obviously got OCD or something. Or maybe she was brought up to be a complete paranoid drip and is sadly passing it on.

You can't catch the clap or crabs from a toilet seat. You're not that likely to catch a D&V bug from it as long as you wash your hands before eating anything.

And it's actually a bit unhealthy to hover and wave your fanjo about over the seat rather than sitting down: apparently it stops your bladder draining properly.

Well... i sit on public toilet seats and have never caught anything... but each to their own

' And it's actually a bit unhealthy to hover and wave your fanjo about over the seat rather than sitting down: apparently it stops your bladder draining properly.'

Brilliant statement soildgoldbrass.... i will remeber that one and use it next time I see someone 'hovering'

Oh crap - am I the only Mum here who does this then? Not always in public places like say pizza express (the loos tend to be pretty clean there!), but in service stations, cinemas or something like that.

Having seen some of the Godawful stuff that is smeared on public loos I tend to hover or put tissue on or hold dd above loo.

Must have OCD then... off to go and wash my hands 758 times!

Used to think I was bad saying "Don't touch anything!" when DD1 went in Safeway. Tissues over the top. Can always wash hands although of course some places dont even want to do that.

My mum used to do this!

There's more germs on the door handles than on the loo seat anyway.

JuneBugJen · 15/08/2008 19:49

Yup - don't touch those much either in public loos. Use a piece of loo roll to open and close doors.
Its amazing how insane you can start to seem to other people!
But then, I remember stepmother being horrified that people didn't put loo roll down 1st. Her disgust is why I thought most people did it!

I remember helping out on a school trip and when I took one of the 4 year old girls to the toilet she refused to sit on it unless there was toilet roll around it.

Only joking

Always wanted to do that.

Well the 'covering of the loo seat in toilet roll' is more wide spread than i thought ! Damn me and my 'without protection' attitude to using public toilets !!

bloody hoverers. if it wasn't for hoverers weeing all over the seat it wouldn't need wiping before the next person could sit down.
JUST SIT DOWN.
if toilet seats were so dangerous we'd either all be ill all the time or would have perished altogether with the advent of the public toilet.
yanbu!
