To be upset that I was called a Competitive Mum?

I found out from a mutual friend that 2 other mums, friends for years, declared me a competitive mum. Utterly mortified I am! Needless to say I don't think I am, I love their kids, have babysat them, always remember birthdays, am complimentary about them etc.

I think I'm oversensitive as I had PND second time around but I'm really upset as they are supposed to be mates. It came up as I was bemoaning that I don't see much of them any more. I'm not even sure how I would define a competitive mum (could be the problem...!)

Yes I agree it is a bit muppetty but in her defence I was going on and on about not seeing these people much any more and couldn't understand why. She said that she didn't want to upset me but thought I would want to know as I was imagining all sorts of other reasons.

Presumably what they mean by this is that your child(ren) are so amazing that THEY feel they are losing the competition.

If they really said this, they don't sound a whole lot of loss. If you think you can get over this (and it's amazing what you can get over), then keep pegging away at meeting up with them. Might be worth sorting out a strategy to find some new friends though.

competitive mum in my area. someone who when your dc does something, they declare there's has done it, but only higher, faster, quicker.

and if you buy something for dc, they buy same thing...but bettter somehow

It's petty of me to want to know why they said that isn't it? I can 'fess up to a lot of faults but that one really surprised me.

I think I am guilty of saying 'yes mine does that too' type things but isn't that what mums do? Out of love and pride and all that. I'm wary of saying anything now in case I look like a nob.

Who cares what they think. YOu haven't done anything wrong. If they want to mock people and say things behind your back like a couple of prize bitches then that's up to them. Tell them to get to soddery.
