I'm ok cos its me who likes the olympics not DP. Although he does my head in with the football. DD just sits there bored then.

YABU - but I think you know that really wink

I don't watch because it just doesn't interest me, but DH likes it and I don't really mind. It's not like it's on every year.

The Olympics are only on once every four years, it is a spectacular event.
Also, most athletes taking part are amateurs, none of these overpriced millionnaire footballers etc.
It is 'sports by the people for the people'.

We won't be glued to it, but enjoy watching the swimming, diving, gymnastics and athletics and horseriding.

I know what you mean. My DH likes all that stuff.

He has to put up with me watching corrie and big brother though, which he hates grin

hippi - Sorry but I gotta say it. They are professionals. Tennis has Murphy, Federa & nadal and football has ronaldhino (sp?)

But I agree it is good to watch it.

I thought there was a rule that you had to be an amateur to take part, ie. have another paid job?

Or was that in the good old days and things have changed?

LuckySalem Sun 10-Aug-08 10:04:00

Hippi - We thought that but apparently cos so many of the athletes have become proffessional they've had no choice but to open it up! It sux now!

hippipotami Sun 10-Aug-08 10:08:09

Ah, thanks Lucky smile

But I still think Olympics are okay. It is actually the only sport we watch in this house. (and only watch if we happen to be home and we happen to have the tv on, we don't make a point of watching it)

cupsoftea Sun 10-Aug-08 10:11:57

it's once every four years - calculate this against time spent watching eastenders or whatever

I don't like the professional highly paid sports like tennis and football being in the Olympics. What next - cricket and snooker?

For athletes, gymnasts etc the Olympics are the pinnacle of their careers and that is what they train for. For tennis and football pros it is just another trophy

They're all drugged up to their eyeballs too....boring boring boring.

But maybe your dd will come to love it? I'm thinking of the lovely Hoyt story

Just the little push he needs then wink

Might put him off exposing her to the Olympics...

Sorry to hijack your thread, but did you get a message from me, riven? It is the first time I have used CAT and I am not sure I haven't ballsed things up.

So yeah, the Olympics. We were just watching Australia vs Argentina in the football and they announced the obscene amount of money one of the Argentinians makes in fees and endorsements. DH worked out that he earns in a year what *the entire stadium full of people* earns combined in three months, assuming they are on average urban Chinese wages.
