AIBU?

To think people should respect my wishes on my wedding day

I am getting married at the end of August, everything is sorted, all going well (Miraculously). Except for one thing. On the wedding invitations, I asked people to come dressed in pink - or at least with pink touches. Pink is my favourite colour and my lovely fiance has agreed to wear a grey suit with gorgeous pink waistcoat and tie.
My dress is, obviously pink, bridesmaids are in pink, the flowers will be pink, the decorations are pink - that is the colour scheme.

Well, everyone rsvp'd but now it appears some of my friends and family are rebelling. My best friend has shown me her outfit and it is not pink. Or even purple, red, magenta, vermillion or puce! It is green. I have asked her if she couldn't get a jacket with pink in it and a hat but she refuses. It will look bloody horrible in the wedding photos.
She has got very shirty with me and has told me that apparently several other friends are ignoring the pink theme. And now my sister has said her dh is refusing to wear anything remotely pink (not even a tie with some pink in it)
It's my wedding, it's at a lovely expensive venue, I am paying for them to have a marvellous day, plenty of (pink) champagne and lovely food (all of it with a pink flavour!) and they are going to ruin everything if they persist in ignoring my request. I just want it to be perfect.
What should I do? I've even thought anbout making pink sashes for the rebels to wear but time is running out and I am running out of patience (and money).

I sooooo hope this is a windup. And if it isn't, all power to the refusers.

YABU. And more than a bit Bridezilla.

You can't really dictate what people will wear. Picking an outfit to wear to someone else's wedding is difficult enough, without being given rules like this.

oh for god sake

stop being so childish

it sounds like a party for seven year olds not a wedding

i wouldnt wear pink, it doesnt suit me

you cannot demand what people wear. sorry.

have you forgotten the true meaning of marriage or are you just after a big pink party?

My best friend had a 'pink wedding'- I even had to wear a pink bridesmaid dress ( I looked like a Sow).

Guests wore what they wanted and this did not ruin the day or pics at all.

I think that its a bit much to dictate what people should wear.

Relax and enjoy your day, its about the marriage, not the wedding show itself.

Just to add, I would think that this thread was a wind up- had I not seen the effots my friend went to to create a 'pink' day.

madness

of course it's not a wind-up. When I say 'pink' I don't mean everyone has to turn up looking like a barbioe doll. There are many, many shades of pink from barely there shell pink to bright hot magenta. I'd even settle for purple.
Why 'more power to the refusers.''? I have doen everything to make sure it is a nice day for everyone. The inviutes went out in january, they could have told me months ago if they didn't like it.

oh dear

you have a classic case of the bridezillas...

you can theme the room and the food and the decor, but expecting to theme your guests is a bit much

no way will anyone over the age of 4 agree to wear a pink sash

i think you need to stop thinking in terms of you paying for them to have a marvellous day, and think about what a wedding is: a public showing of your commitment to each other

what colour people wear does not make you any less married

Are you very young?

I wouldn't wear pink if you paid me. I look dreadful in it.

Get over it.

taking this on a serious note, put what youre requesting requesting to one side (could be anything not just something with colour pink), i would be gutted if my clsoe friends and family decided to totally disgregard my feelings and 'plot against it' to purposely go out of their way to NOT humour me in such a small way.

EVERYONE 'could' have made the effort and wore a pink flower/tie/jewlerry etc..id be questioning my friends, if they want you day to be special for you why are they going out of their way to upset you?..fine, not everyone likes pink so wont buy a pink dress, but a touch of pink wouldnt harm any of them!

BTW im not married so dont know the stress in the organisation, but i imagine your a bit manic now..poor you

Aw bless, congrats on your wedding I hope it all goes well! I know my DP would probably refuse to go if he had to wear something pink but I guess he'd stick a pink flower in his lapel. Weddings are expensive for the guests as well, especially if they have to buy a new pink outfit that they will never wear again ...

I hope it doesn't spoil your day whatever happens.

I have to agree I'm afraid with answers so far. Yes it is your big day, but to dictate to grown adults what they are to wear! Some of them might not suit pink! Some may not want to be seen dead in pink, they would have to wear it all day. They might have had their eye on a fantastic outfit when they heard about your wedding only to be told they have to find something pink. Sorry YABU.

And witrh respect, the photographer is costing me an arm and a leg, so it's not unreasonable fo me to want to the pictures - a lasting memento of my perfect day - to look beautiful. Which they won't if all the colours are clashing.

I'm going out now, will be back later, but I sincerely hope not everyone on here is going to call me babyish etc.
Plenty of grown women like pink. I want my wedding day to reflect my personality is all.

Wind up or you are severely out of your mind... if so, you are ruining the wedding yourself and giving a bad time to your guests...

this reminds me of an invitation i received to an (ex) friends 21st

she said ON THE INVITATION "presents should be small but expensive"

i didn't go to the party and didn't buy a present

i think if you continue to make such a fuss about pink outfits you have no guests at your wedding

so, it will just be you and your very pink husband to be

It sounds like it's more about the party than the wedding, really OTT it can't be fun if people are forced to wear clothes they are uncomfortable in, that's ridiculous. Don't you want your guests to be relaxed and enjoy themselves?

YABU.

I love pink (as you can probably guess) but would not dare dictate what was to be worn by guests at my wedding.

Get some perspective. In a few years you will cringe at just how unreasonable you are being.

You need to get your priorities straight. Get some pink sunglasses if you have such a problem with it.
