I work in a special school and there is a lady at church who had vaguely heard about an incident which happened. Unfortunately she has heard about the incident by a from a child who goes there (This child lives in a fanasty world). The child has spouted completely bollocks and the affect of chinese whispers has made it as far from the truth as possible.

The lady started to talking to me about his incident and saying how terrible the school and the staff are because they used violence on a child.

Reality is that that the physical restraint was used because the child was in serious danger. The child was hurt in anyway. Child X has zero concept of danger due to brain damage. Parents will think nothing about restraining an 18 month old toddler to stop them having a serious accident. If the child had not been restrained he/she might have been killed.

I just said to her that am not allowed to discuss such things becuase I have a duty of confidentality. She tried to press me further as she wants gossip and I just walked off.

Part of me would have like to have said she was talking bollocks, and say that the teachers were 100% professional and that teenagers with learning diffculties should not always be believed.

I don't think you were rude.
You do have a duty of confidentiality.

You behaved professionally by refusing tio discuss the matter.

She, on the other hand, is a gossipy old biddy.
