To hate weatherpeople saying "Spits And Spots" of rain??

I hate it so much that I've almost written to the bbc about it. Honestly, it is irrational but it sounds so irritating. It's like when people put on baby voices and say things like 'ickle wickle'

Does anyone else HATE this too? Am I alone?

I have to turn the volumne down when I watch the weather because they drag it out so badly and blather on so much I can't stand it. I just watch the picture.

Wigparty, I have heard this from the full RANGE of weatherpersons, male female, young and old but particularly guilty are the Scots. It actually sounds like it may be a proper expression somewhere but it makes me want to self-immolate in protest! It makes me think of Balamory which i can't see without emotional pain.....!

You are right to do that Branflake. I usually hear it on the radio which is why it's hard to escape.

The other awful thing about weatherpeople is their generic warmth/good humour/note of an underlying giggle/tone of a friendly aunt or uncle/lame jokes.......

My other pet hate is when weather people try and tie the start of the weather into what the newsreader last said, resulting in a totaly contrived piece of rubbish!

YANBU it is awful. As is cloud bubbling up.

There was a funny exchange on R4 when someone queried the use of the phrase "later there will be more organised rain" in a forecast.

Someone emailed to say maybe the opposite to "organised rain" was an Absolute Shower.

I read the title to this thread and thought to myself 'I'm going to mention how much I HATE it when they talk about 'cloud bubbling up'' - but I see I've been beaten to it - glad to know I'm not alone

I find it almost impossible to listen to/watch a weather forecast without realising at the end that I tuned out at some point and have missed most of what they said - not altogether a bad thing, really.

I think I am being unreasonable but I still wish that people responsible could be tranported to a rock in the middle of the ocean and left there for not having my fine instincts on what is and what is not a repulsive turn of phrase.....
