Surely they could have done it on Friday, or 6-8pm instead?

While I'm here can I have a quick rant about her secondary school and their trip to London this week.

They get back approx midnight on Thursday night (last year apparently it was 2am!!!) and are still expected to attend school on Friday for half a day (last day of term).....

...I don't fecking think so

Yes, you're unreasonable. It's only one night and you're not forced to send her.

At our school we can only have discos Thursday nights because the hall is booked the other nights.

We also have to have 2-3 different sessions each time because of numbers, so the last junior one finishes 8.30-9. There's no way we could fit them in otherwise.

I'm sure there are very good reasons why it is that night and that time.

It's only one night and although your dd may be tired the next day at school, it's so close to the end of term that it's not as if they are going to be doing much real work anyway.
