would you accept your parents credit card for going on holiday with?

bit of background!! i have an older brother and younger sister who both get a fair ammount of financial help from my parents, nothing really HUGE but a fair ammount of help all the same.

i have always been really independent with money and hate even asking my parents for £5 till i can get to the nearest cashpoint.

dh and i are taking the dc to france in 2 weeks time, we dont have a lot of money at the moment (dh accepted a promotion working away from home which is good in the long term but short term we are spending more while living apart) and have really budgeted for our holiday and quite proud that we are still managing to go away this year when it would have been easier to just stay at home.

i have already had words with my mum who said she was going to pay money into my bank account and told her i was not comfortable with her doing that, now she has offered to give me her credit card so that we can put any extras on it and use it in a emergency and we will "settle up" once we are back. which really means she will never let me give her a penny.

to be honest it would be handy to have it for emergencys, i dont have a credit card so if i ran out of euros and my bank card did not work for any reason we would be in trouble, but i still have issues with spending her money. even though i know that she feels bad about helping my siblings out and not me.

would you take the card and be gratefull or stick to your original plan and not acept it even though it may hurt her feelings?

take it and don't use it!

or, take it and use it for some extras - your mum sounds like she wants to treat you so why not

you don't sound like you are going to be going crazy and running up a massive bill on £300 bottles of champagne and caviar

I'd swallow my pride and take the card

If it would be handy for you and it would please your Mum too, then you should take it!

Buy you and DH a nice bottle of wine on the last night with it and tell your Mum she helped you both have a wonderful evening on your holiday

I would thank her very much, take the card and use it if you are running short/have an emergency.

Kerry, your mum sounds like mine. She won't take money from me but pays for everything when we go out. I get my card out and she has already handed hers over.

I would take it if it was my mum and try not to use it or use it very little.
If it was my dad I would take it and spend as much as possiable (he is super rich and always super tight I have dreams about being let loose with his credit card)

kerry - I have threatened to walk out of the supermarket leaving a full trolley because of my mum wanting to pay so I completely understand! I'd take it for emergencies - she will worry about you much less if she knows you've got some kind of financial back up
