AIBU?

Nerdle or Wordle

Hornetfarmer · 08/02/2022 19:16

DH and I have just spent 45 minutes debating whether Nerdle or Wordle involves more skill. I think that Wordle is more luck - once you have got to a certain point then it is pretty much luck and guessing a word which fits that sequence. Your first word makes a difference but that sort of takes the skill out of it for me.
I find Nerdle better for offering challenge. He says it is the same.
FYI There are 17 000 combinations for Nerdle and 5000 for Wordle.

Yabu: he's right they're the same
Yanbu: I'm right and Nerdle offers more challenge

Yes we are very sad!

There's definitely an element of luck in Wordle.
Nurdle is harder.
Lewdle is the hardest. You only get 4 goes, it will except any combination of letters, and I can't swear in North American English.

I just tried nerdle for the first time and I definitely think it is harder.

And don't forget Absurdle, which keeps changing the word you're trying to guess to make it as hard as possible...

Nerdle, definitely. I got today's Wordle in 2 by putting in a lucky first guess. Nerdle, while there's an element of luck, requires you to understand BIDMAS, think methodically about where the = sign could be and recognise how an incorrect number can be corrected while affecting the rest of the calculation AND using the available numbers.

Off to investigate nerdle....

Definitely Nerdle, it's more intellectual.

Byrdle, the choral one.

Lewdle. I don't know enough rude words though

Nerdle definitely harder, more thought provoking. That's even without the blind panic that hit me when I saw those numbers - no idea why, I just have to wait for rational thought to resume.

But the = can only be in one of two places.

Got Globle in one guess today Grin

You are both wrong. Nerdle is pure luck - you can easily end up in a position where there are more possible correct options than guesses, even with knowledge of BODMAS and basic maths. Wordle requires knowledge about frequency of letters used in English words, what order they are typically put together to be able to figure it out. That's not luck.

I just tried Globle too, that one is fun!

Hadn't heard of Nerdle, just tried and got it at the last try, I found it easier than wordle but then I prefer math to language anyway.

I’ve just tried nerdle. Did not enjoy it at all and lost. Very annoying that you can have the “correct” sum but it’s wrong because it’s in a different order.

You can also toggle to mini nerdle which is easier

I loved Absurdle until I figured out how to do it in five and then you can just choose same words every time!

Surely a lot depends on where your strengths lie. I'm useless at maths but have quite a wide vocabulary.

I prefer Wordle because I can actually do it. Nerdle was just frustrating as there are so many variables. I understand place value and bodmas but got so bored going through endless combinations.

I find nerdle much easier! Usually get it in 3. What does that say about me Sad

Am I allowed to say to the OP, Hornetfarmer, that I now hate you. I am totally addicted to Wordle and I am now going to have to find out what Nerdle is.
In a couple of days I'll probably be thinking how good it was that Hornetfarmer introduced me to it.

Vanillalime · 08/02/2022 21:44

I feel Nerdle is the more challenging of the two, but I prefer Wordle as i’m more a words than numbers person.

Although I did discover Dordle today & that is my new favourite!
