I’m literally shaking! Can’t believe this!!! It can’t be truly ‘safe’

AIBU to expect a town wide scheme aimed at protecting children and vulnerable people to be safety checked and safeguarded?! A terrible incident occurred in my local town this week where a young boy was attacked - on the back of this attack a local shop has declared themselves a ‘safe space for anyone feeling threatened etc’ this is amazing, the shop is in the centre of the town, well known and has visible cameras. After what appears to be an overwhelmingly positive response on Facebook following the announcement, the shop owners have now announced a new town wide scheme where they will supply ‘Safe Place’ stickers that are to be placed in other shop/ business windows, where fellow shop/ business owners also wish to declare their premises as a ‘safe space’ This idea is amazing and I fully support the idea , however people who appear to work at our local schools have already (1 day after the scheme was announced) requested posters to put up around the schools to promote the scheme - again brilliant to raise awareness…. HOWEVER, after asking said shop owner (who is organising the scheme) whether they will safety check those who request a sticker, the answer was (long story short) NO - “simply no funds to check everyone and go ask the council to help yourself if you’re bothered” There are over a HUNDRED comments on this post, and it seems the shop owner is going to send a sticker out to all without checking if they are a verifiable premises - no checks on DBS, no involvement with local police or council to support. Now if this goes ahead (which it seems like it will!) my child will go to school and the teachers and carers will tell the kids to trust these stickers displayed at premises all across town - there will be NO safeguarding, NO safety checks on those who request a sticker, NO guarantees whatsoever that a premises that is advertising to children and vulnerable people that they are safe, IS ACTUALLY SAFE?! How is a small child meant to differentiate a safe premises from a dangerous one that both bear the same sticker, that their teachers have told them to look out for as safe? We all know that ^anyone^ can set up a fake Facebook page or anonymously order anything online. This is an amazing idea , it could help so many local children and adults, however it seems incredibly and scarily rushed. It could be absolutely fantastic if proper precautions were put in place. After saying this to the shop owner, they still won’t budge and appear to be pushing ahead with getting as many stickers sent out as possible, seemingly further than just our town - I can’t believe that they cannot understand where I’m coming from or even attempt to make this scheme safe?! I’m literally shaking and can’t sleep - AIBU?!
