AIBU?

To have my pyjamas on when MIL visits?

MIL is visiting this evening. Today I've been out walking, come home had a nice bath and put PJs on.

DH thinks I should get dressed, I'm willing to compromise with a hoody over the PJs but the spotty trousers will give it away.

Am I a slattern for even considering it? MIL is too polite to mention it.

I wouldnt wear pyjamas for a visitor, no.

Context might change it though. How close are you? How often does she visit? Does she pop in often?

Always curious

What is your relationship like with your DH?

And is she regularly over or over on a rare occasion for dinner?

I find it astonishing that people are bothered by stuff like this. Who gives a rats arse about what anyone is wearing ?
Is your MIL the kind of person who would make a massive judgment if you are in your PJs … if she is, so what … she’s not your judge and jury.

No. Wear what you want.
Was she invited? Your DH can always compensate by dressing in a top hat and tails. 😂

Is it casual after dinner, then that's fine. If she's here for a meal I'd throw something on

Depends I would in front of my MIL when she was alive. But we lived with each other for a hit so comfortable and I would infant of my grandparents. But if we weren't close then no I wouldn't

She comes every week, it's not a formal dinner just coffee and a chat up.

What's my relationship got to do with it 😂 DH just said "Aren't you going to get dressed? MIL is coming soon" Not "I demand you get dressed you filthy whore!"

It depends - personally if I knew we were having guests, I'd not change into my pajamas.

Don't you have other comfortable clothes - leggings and a jumper or something? It does feel a bit rude to be hosting someone in pajamas, tbh.

Eating dinner together, get dressed.

Chatting and watching tv, pyjamas

That's an adorable idea. And a monocle. Grin

Go for it.

I doubt my MIL would bat an eye, but then she does also have a key and comes and goes, we don't stand on ceremony for her, she takes us as she finds us.

Yes, YABU.

Pretty odd to know someone is coming to visit, and putting your pyjamas on. Different thing altogether is someone dropped in unannounced.

I don’t get dressed on the weekend unless going out.

Crack on.

She probably would judge me, but only silently!

I'd definitely be dressed. Not smart, but dressed. I've never seen my own mother downstairs in her PJs, even when I was a child.

Let her silently judge your PJs...
Has DH got some nice cufflinks and a fancy waistcoat to add to his top hat n tails? Wink

I’d get dressed. If you own nothing sufficiently comfortable for a cup of coffee than pyjamas, then you’ve got bigger problems.

I’d think it rude if someone wasn’t dressed.

I'd stay in my pjs in your position.

Not only do I wear pj's when in laws (and my parents) visit, dh and I regularly go to my parents and inlaws in pjs/loungewear. Both my mum and mil tend to be wearing pjs/loungewear when we go over, unless we're going out.
No one bats an eyelid.

We had my inlaws here last night for chinese food.

I wore Harry Potter pj bottoms. I didn’t even think about it!

if I did that, it would generate a few phonecalls from MIL to her son, daughter and possibly some of the church group, complaining and judging. Hard. (I should probably do it next time)

From this thread, and others on the subject of pyjamas, it’s clear there is a market for pyjamas that don’t look like pyjamas - anyone want to come on Dragons’ Den with me?

If I turned up to visit Ds1 and his fiancée, and she was in pyjamas, I wouldn’t bat an eyelid, nor would I judge. It isn’t something I’d do, but I can really understand the pleasure of having a bath, and putting on comfy pjs, and just relaxing.
