AIBU?

To not understand the obsession

With DM boots?

I think they are so ugly & chunky. Every time I see them on I think to myself, why would anyone buy them?! They are really masculine looking.

Confused what's wrong with masculine looking? Would you prefer everyone to wear 6 inch heels?

Exactly what I was going to say.

Actually, yes.

Sorry it’s just my opinion on them

YABU, I love DMs.
High heeled shoes look gross to me. Don't get me started on Uggs!

I wouldn't say there's an 'obsession'. It's a style of footwear that's currently in fashion. People presumably buy them because they...like them!

Different people like different things shocker! :o

I live in Docs, I have 4 pairs of boots, a pair of shoes and a pair of sandals. I'm 100% sure I'll end up buying more. I don't own any shoes with heels or anything other than Docs and some trainers and some walking boots. It started a few years back when I had ankle problems and needed something supportive, and now I just like them. They're comfy, they're solid (although sadly not as solid as they used to be when I was a student 30 years ago) and I like how chunky they are. I'm not as keen on the platform ones, but I do like them generally.

I have big feet (size 7) for my height (5ft 3) so they are not the shoe for me but they look great if you have quite small feet.

Each to their own. I love them and don't find them masculine.

I hate heels on myself these days, but I can't say it bothers me if other people wear them. I can't understand the mentality of getting worked up over other people's shoe choice!

Righto. Not sure how well the school run and dog walks will go in Louboutins but sacrifices must be made in the name of femininity I suppose.

I love them and just bought a pair as they were finally in my size. I wear walking shoes everywhere so I guess I should swap those for impractical heels and foot damage?

Masculine looking????

Is it 1952?

I love the look of Docs, but always feel like I look like my feet are HUGE when I try them on, even though whenever I see someone else in them I get a pang of "I should just do it" go and try a pair on, and don't buy them... maybe dh should get me a pair 🤣

I alternate between flats and heels, depends on what my day involves.

Proper DMs last forever and are very comfortable (once you've broken them in).

iklboo · 16/01/2022 20:07

Sorry, chuck. I'm not going to wear 6 inch heels for you or anyone else.

I like them, I think heels look silly and are impractical... just personal taste.

It’s just personal taste. There are lots of things I don’t really like that are fashionable/ other people like.

Some people like them, others don't....exactly like it is with apples/the colour blue/camping/coffee....literally anything/everything!

Because when you wear them you don’t slip on the ice.

I love DMs. They are long-lasting, and when you do a job where you are on your feet all day, that’s important.

DeckTheHallsWithGin · 16/01/2022 20:09

Yabu. Been cool for decades and much more practical than heels.

Report
XenoBitch · 16/01/2022 20:09

DMs don't have to be "masculine" either. You can get glitter ones in all colours. There is a calf high pair with embroidered roses up the side of them. My friend has a pair that are covered in white spots that came with shocking pink thick laces.

they look good but they are not what they once were.

they gained popularity because they were high quality work boots, so they were cheap and lasted years, I still have a pair from the 90s.

but the new ones are fashion boots and no where near the quality that got them popular, better off with a pair of Grafters.

Okay but my opinion of people tottering around in 6 inch heels is that they look daft but I wouldn't 'PREFER' anyone to wear DM's instead

They’re practical for dog walking/school runs/traipsing after my toddler etc. Not sure heels or ballet flats etc would cut the mustard.
I’m not obsessed with them, I just like them 🤷🏻‍♀️.
