Cold Pizza in lunchbox?

PizzaInLunchbox · 26/10/2021 13:31

Odd or fine?

My 7yo is saying it’s her favourite (not warm or hot cold) and she wants it for lunch at school.

I’d obviously cook the pizza the night before let it cool right down. Would be just cheese and tomato as she doesn’t like any other kind of pizza.

WIBU to put a cold slice of pizza in her lunchbox instead of sandwiches? I’d also include a small biscuit (like a penguin), cucumber and/or carrot sticks, an apple or banana, and then some cocktail sausages or similar.

Just pondering for next week when shes back.

If you know she'd eat it, I'd do it.

Not great having pizza sausage and chocolate as a lunch. Very nutritionally poor even with a couple of veg sticks thrown in.

How about wholewheat hummus and veg wraps or cream cheese / chicken sandwiches. No sausage chocolate or pizza but maybe a yoghurt and fruit with a wrap or sandwich?

Pizza is an ocassional treat not a school lunch.

I do this quite often, my son is gluten free so a side of cold pizza is much more appetising than a sandwich with gluten free bread.
Go for it!

Not much different to a cheese and tomato sandwich in most respects

Once a week I don't think it's an issue. I wouldn't do it every day.

Absolutely yes. My DDs loved to have leftover pizza in their lunchbox. I think they used to leave pieces deliberately so they could take it the next day.
Even now DD 15 will take leftovers like fajitas, or tacos instead of a 'boring sandwich' Grin

Yeah my DC often have a slice or two leftover on a Friday. As Thursdays are always something quick like frozen pizza due to clubs.

Works well and they're very happy. Saves me making sandwiches too. Just shove in the pizza and some veggie bits.

Although wouldn't put pizza and a chocolate biscuit. I'm always more concerned about protein. So tend to do pizza, veggies and yogurt.

Dough, tomato sauce, cheese. Is it really that different to a cheese sandwich? You don’t say if it’s home made or shop bought. Obviously, it’s possible to make a healthier version if you DIY but it does have time implications. I probably wouldn’t do it everyday, just to keep her tastes broad but once in a while, why not? Let’s face it Pizza will likely make an appearance on the school dinners menu at some point.

Sounds great. Craving pizza now :(

It's no different at all to a cheese and tomato sandwich so those suggesting humous and veggie wraps etc need to reign that in really and step back from the judgey posts. I think that's a normal packed lunch in place of a sandwich.

Why does hummus always get brought up on these threads? I never met anyone who liked it as a kid. Never mind being given it in a school lunch box.

Kids who have school dinners can have pizza once a week if they choose!

This will sound odd but I think it depends on how you cut it as to how the lunch box police will view it!!

Triangles = lazy mum leftovers

Squares = Italian lunch!

That wasn't the OP's question. 🙄

DD 13 now has pizza every Friday in her lunch box ...I get the small seriously processed probably Grin-- ones for 49p from Aldi and whack it in the oven that am when I get up to put the kettle on then forget it and it ends up somewhat overdone--. Once it's cooled she pops it in her lunchbox. Actually feels less hassle overall than making sandwiches the evening before.

She also has a bar of chocolate with it. Clearly she's going to get rickets soon.

What about an occasional lunch?

Cold pizza is absolutely fine OP. The hand wringing is totally unnecessary.

Occasionally is fine, if you have leftovers from tea or whatever. I wouldn't do it every day.
