Asking boyfriend of 3 months for money .....

Started seeing each other end of July.
Things are going well and we are "official"
Decided to book tickets for a concert next June and they were £130 each.
They fell before our payday so I said I will get them on my credit card and just pay it when the bill comes this month.
He said he would give me the money when he gets paid.

Anyway his pay day came last week and he never offered to pay.
My bill has came and I really don't want to get charged interest.

Aibu to ask him?
I've been dropping subtle hints like ...
Can't wait to see them live next year and
Just listening to this song ..can't wait for next year etc etc but zilch
Nothing

I would text him my bank details and ask him to transfer £130 asap, as my credit card bill is due to be paid.

Shoxfordian Tue 28-Sep-21 17:38:04

Ask him directly for it

honeylulu Tue 28-Sep-21 17:38:23

"The tickets have appeared on my credit card bill and I have to pay it by x date. Can you let me have £x ASAP for your share? If it's easiest I'll give you my bank/PayPal details so you can zip it straight to me. Thanks."

Hey can you transfer me £130 for the gig, my bill came in and I need to sort it, thanks!

If he doesn’t pay or makes excuses, sell his ticket and dump him. Could just be an oversight on his part, his reaction will tell you.

Tell him your bills arrived and here’s your bank details.

This. Excellent advice.

Ask him for the cash, it is not a biggie and an opportunity to learn about his attitude to money... And you are two months in not three. Still very early days. I only say that as i am four months in and we met in May, so know the new relationship tension points myself! grin

GoodnightGrandma Tue 28-Sep-21 17:40:27

Just ask him !
Let’s hope he pays as they’re expensive tickets.
Have you thought about what you’d do if you’re not together then, will one buy the other out ?

Saoirse82 Tue 28-Sep-21 17:40:36

This would be a red flag for me, it looks like he's dodging paying which I would find a massively unattractive trait. Just tell him you need to pay your bill. If he did this again I'd give him the boot, if you're dropping massive hints it's hard to imagine that he's just forgotten.

RosieGuacamosie Tue 28-Sep-21 17:41:59

Is there any chance he didn’t think you were being serious about actually booking the tickets? Next June is an awfully long time away to book an expensive concert with someone you’ve only known two months.

ElephantCup Tue 28-Sep-21 17:42:17

Just ask him, and if he starts dicking you about, sell his to a friend

Bluntness100 Tue 28-Sep-21 17:42:37

Christ, grow a set, text him and say credit card bill now due, here’s the bank details , please transfer before x date.

Ughmaybenot Tue 28-Sep-21 17:43:40

That’s a lot of money to risk on someone you’ve known two months. I don’t know why you’re tiptoeing around ‘hinting’, just tell him to pay you, here’s the details, sorted. And if he doesn’t do it straightaway, I’d consider the relationship dead in the water.

Bluntness100 Tue 28-Sep-21 17:45:08

End of July till now is two months

I can’t believe the two of you booked something so expensive to go together with someone you’ve dated a few weeks, that’s,,,optimistic.

thisplaceisweird Tue 28-Sep-21 17:45:10

Just ask him!! Most people don't respond to subtle hints, you need to just ask for what you're owed and grow a spine

Iggly Tue 28-Sep-21 17:46:25

Ask, stop hinting and just say you can’t afford to pay the interest

FinallyHere Tue 28-Sep-21 17:48:57

I've been dropping subtle hints like ...

Stop hinting. Just ask.

@Eralos did a good 'un.

p.s. this is s good general rule in life. Don't hint, just ask straightforwardly.

Aquamarine1029 Tue 28-Sep-21 17:51:14

Don't believe for a minute that this is an oversight. Demand the money right now and stop being a doormat.

Floralnomad Tue 28-Sep-21 17:52:46

If you need the money just tell him you need it , if you don’t then I’d sit on it and see how it goes as it’s very optimistic booking something for that far off when you have only recently started dating .

I was going to say that! I've been dating someone for around the same amount of time and it would never cross my mind!

Hattie765 Tue 28-Sep-21 17:55:09

Send him a text and ask for it, if he doesn't transfer it within 24 hours dump him and move on as it will get worse from here x

MyHairNeedsASnip Tue 28-Sep-21 17:55:49

Yeah just ask him for the money, he was happy to let you book it so he should be happy to hand his share over.

Also, £130 each for a gig 😱 who are you going seeing?

GloomAndDoom Tue 28-Sep-21 17:56:34

*Can't wait to see them live next year and
Just listening to this song ..can't wait for next year etc etc*
Far too subtle.
bills come in, here's my details for the £x.xx you owe for your XYZ ticket, thanks

Once he's paid it would be polite of you to give him his ticket in case things end.

thedarkling Tue 28-Sep-21 17:57:18

Yes you need to ask him. 'Do you mind transferring me the moment for the gig, my credit card bill's just come in? Ta.'

And that should be that.
