Neighbours stole my takeaway

2 days ago ordered from my local takeaway through deliveroo. Phone ping up saying it had been delivered looked out the window to see the driver getting in his car by the time i got outside he had driven away. Called the takeaway who confirmed it must have been delivered but must have went to the wrong house. There's only really 6 houses it could have went to, 4 of which I know would not have accepted. Went outside to put some stuff in the bin and see my neighbours toddler outside in there garden eating from a pizza box where I ordered from. Takeaway arranged for refund back to me. But honestly can't believe the cheek of my neighbours. Sure it was them as get along with everyone else who are pretty decent and we always give and get parcels for each other. The ones I'm sure took my delivery have only been here about 6 months. My husband convinced me not to go there door about it yesterday as it would have kicked off, as there very loud and I had a polite word with them before about there dog constantly barking and got a mouthful of abuse. Has anyone else had this happen ? How would you deal with it ? Just let it go or say something?

That's pretty brazen eating in in the garden in fill sight. Probably alone a sign just to leave it. A shame on the takeaway being out of pocket but at the same time their driver should have checked the door number (providing you both have obvious ones)

I'd let it go, but next time put a note on the order to say about being extra careful where it's delivered. They'll just deny it, and you've got a refund now, so bringing it up won't make any difference.

Well maybe not the best advice but I'd order a takeaway (not using on-line payment) and send it to their door. Several times.

Definitely not the best advice, you'd just be wasting the takeaway's time and money, the neighbours won't give a feck. 🙄

Oh sounds like my old neighbour has moved in next to you. She stole multiple people’s take aways that needed up being at the wrong door. Only person down here who wouldn’t direct to the right house.

Yeah thr fact I seen them with the pizza box was a jaw dropper, then my husband started with his they might have ordered there own ect. I know it was them tho everyone else on the street is decent. I've had a few amazon/other places parcels go missing since they moved in as well. But never been told where they have been delivered but the penny's dropped now. Just really don't get how someone can steal there neighbours delivery and think its acceptable or a normal thing to do.

No the driver here normally knock and hand u the delivery or wait till you answer. It was a big delivery as had 3 pizzas and chicken tikka ext so not something the parents could have missed

I wouldn't say anything as you have no proof.

I would however get huge numbers for the front of your property to prevent deliveries of any kind being sent to the wrong address in future.

What should they have done? Knocked on everyone's door asking if it was theirs? My DH often orders us a takeaway as a treat/surprise on his way back from work, which often arrives before he does! I accept takeaways I'm not expecting all the time, for this reason. It could have been an honest mistake. If the child was eating outside, it sounds like it was. I definitely would not accuse someone of stealing and risk a neighbour problem for the sake of some pizzas that were refunded anyway.

Yeah I thought the same. My husband really doesn't want any more arguments with them tho as we had problems with them partying every night when they first moved in for weeks then the dog barking. Only just back on civil terms (saying hello through gritted teeth) then this. I know he's right its not worth the agro but its so cheeky.

They're obviously CFs and while it is annoying, the issue is really the delivery guy taking it to the wrong door. You got a refund, no harm done. I'd let it go.

Sounds like it might help to check how well your house is signposted, particularly at night if so many deliveries are being made in error to their address - you can also add comments such as DO NOT deliver to number 22 under special instructions as well.

I'm lucky in that I have reliable neighbours next door and directly opposite (perhaps they think the same about us?), but I know in my old place, if it didn't go into my hands, I'd never see whatever it was and would have to go through the same old hassle of convincing companies that just because the driver says he gave it to some random person in the vicinity, that doesn't mean it had been delivered to me.


It won't stop everything from going missing if you improve the lighting/etc, but it makes it slightly less likely a driver will miss your house when they're in a hurry.

Next time you have a spare Amazon box put a note in it saying "hands off my stuff you thieving mfrs" and "deliver" it to theirs. See if you get it back or if they open it 😂

Surely you say 'oh I haven't ordered this do you have the right number?'

Driver can respond 'it's for *name at number 24'

You can then respond 'ah we are number 22' and close the door. Delivery driver can do the knocking OR

'Ah that's us, dh must have ordered it'

OP... so a toddler was outside in the garden eating from a pizza box? Does that not seem extremely odd to you? I mean, without getting into why such a young child would be eating outside on their own (choking risk), why would they be eating it out of one of the boxes?

I'm just glad you were there to witness the toddler so that you could have saved them choking. That is one thing that makes my blood run cold. Such a deadly and quick thing.

I ordered off deliveroo and for the the first time the app gave me a code and I had to give it to the driver to confirm it was for me. Think it's a new thing as that's the first time I've had a code generated.

So your takeaways and Amazon parcels are being stolen by this family?
Are you putting the correct address on your deliveries? It's one thing for one company to deliver to a slightly wrong address but seems unusual for it to happen with multiple companies.

Why wouldn't you eat pizza out of the box? Saves on the washing up.
