AIBU?

We are now being called bodies with vaginas by one of the top medical journals in the land

YANBU the word is woman
YABU shut up VAGINA haver

This will probably get shunted back to the naughty corner. But this is something women need to know. Coming soon to a GP surgery near you. As a vagina haver you may be invited for a cervical smear.

This is what the erasure of women looks like. Splayed on the front cover of the journal read by every medic in the land.

Here we go with the trans bashing again.

Nobody is trying to erase women. They are trying to be inclusive of women who are trapped in men's bodies, and men who are trapped in women's bodies. It is also fine to not know which gender you fit in to and to be non-binary.

There, fixed it for you.

So why can’t we say women?

Report
SherlocksDeerstalker · 25/09/2021 08:00

Because it might upset a man.

So why can you use the words “women” and “men”?

It's fine to not know what gender you fit in if you believe in the concept of gender.
But everyone knows what sex they are.

That is a belief system, and should not be conflated with medical reality.

@amijustparanoidorjuststoned if that's the case, why then is The Lancet running a major piece on "bodies with vaginas" - note not even 'people with vaginas' but last week were happily talking about 'men with prostate cancer' - not not people with prostate cancer let alone bodies with prostrates

Can anybody link the article for me please?

I wish everyone would go with 'women and transwomen' and 'men and transmen'

Accurate, reality, inclusive

Report
AtlasPine · 25/09/2021 08:03

Maybe they are trying to be exclusive of women in men’s bodies?

I don’t like the wording but agree that everyone with a vagina, whatever they identify as, needs to be included in screening programmes.

Nobody is trying to erase women.
Except they literally have. Only women though, not men. When are you going to recognize the misogyny in this?

Report
NCAFGS · 25/09/2021 08:04

I'm offended by that! YADNBU

They could have said female then. It doesn't have to be a choice between "women" or "bodies with vaginas" where the correct word for the sex of people who menstruate is "female".

And if it is a choice, then women will do. Bodies with vaginas relates to any female animal. So are they talking about dogs/cows/sheep/lionesses? Or just humans?

It's a bit off being called a body as well really. But I guess it's a medical thing.

This isn’t the phrase of the moment anymore.

It would be ‘women and trans men’ not ‘women and trans women ’ for vagina related business surely?

But they use "men" when they had an item on prostates they didn't call them "bodies with prostates" so thats not very inclusive is it? How dare they not be inclusive on every article and only on the articles that involve WOMEN.

I find the whole thing too confusing and am probably very out of date with terminology.

Nobody is trapped in a body. We are our bodies. This is ridiculous and is also now considered to be transphobic. Do try and keep up.

That would just be so logical and reasonable wouldn't it? I think we'd all go along with that.
