I do. Wine usually, a couple of glasses. It's how I unwind. I do skip some nights. I know it's not great for you but everyone has their vices. It helps me cope and feel happier and more able to 'do' life.

I don't. I used to but then I read "Drinking: A Love Story" and realised how close to becoming an addict I was and stopped. I'm more of a binge drinker, which I know also isn't healthy.

Don't ever ask on here op. You'll be diagnosed as an alcoholic as all the tee totallers fall over themselves to tell you.

No. I used to at one point but then I realised it was becoming a crutch so I stopped. I feel much better for it.

Nope only once a week, work nights.

Me 🤦‍♀️ Probably way more is than is healthy and I'm very aware than I need to reduce it and quickly. However it's difficult and is my go to after a day at work. I can't keep alcohol in the house though so maybe that's another story altogether...

What you are asking for is 'permission' to carry on doing something you know is bad for you, by hoping enough other people come on and confirm they are doing it too, so you can convince yourself it's OK.

A 'couple of glasses' doesn't sound so bad, however what if you said half a bottle, or even 2/3rds of a bottle. It sounds more.

I used to, until quite recently, but deep down, I knew it wasn't good for me

Cutting down to 2 nights per week was a lot easier than j thought

I have maybe one glass a couple of evenings a week and maybe a bottle or two over a weekend.

Nope. I'm not much of a drinker at all. Even when I did used to go out at the weekends, I've never been much of an at home drinker! I have considered it though. I am under a lot of stress and it probably help me unwind...

Marchingredsoldiers · 15/09/2021 19:08

No...but wish i could - too expensive and gives me hangovers after 2 glasses, so every 2nd day!

Job is very high stress at the moment. I should go to the gym, walk the dog more or even try to read a book/watch telly. But alcohol is the only really effective stress reliever for me. A vicious cycle really.

When I'm not this stressed then i drink about 1/2 times a week and have no cravings.

Nope. I used to, but then when I got to my mid 30s I eventually realised how bad it was for me, and stopped. Now I feel so much fresher and less tired all the time. I also have my evenings back to do stuff, as I'm not just zonked on the sofa.

Stopping drinking has also made me less anxious, and I'm far fitter and healthier.

You'll get lots of people telling you it's fine and normal though, which is probably what you want. Even though it's not.

I don’t, but that’s because I know it’s a slippery slope for me personally. I’d love to, but I don’t as I know I need to control myself or it would become a problem.

@TeenMinusTests Not permission. I'm an adult with no dependents so no permission required. More a comparison really to understand how others see it.

I drink probably 4/5 nights a week, usually Wine and can drink a whole bottle if sat chatting with the husband (he doesn't drink at all) my kids have never seen me drunk , I can get up etc so I don't see it as an issue

Cheeseandlobster · 15/09/2021 19:10

I have to make a real conscious effort to not drink 4 times a week. If it wasn't so calorific and bad for you I so would drink every night. A beer or 3 for me

Some weeks every night.. some weeks just Friday and Saturday. I am trying to be good this week... The bottle of red is calling to me from the cupboard

I don't see a problem with that op. It's only a problem if it's affecting other areas in your life and/or your health.

My dad drinks 2 bottles of wine at night, every night without fail. This is a problem for him although he doesn't see it as one.

I have done in the past, but I've had to really put some restrictions on myself.

I'm absolutely capable of drinking a bottle a night, still getting up and functioning the next day, but I was starting to feel and look groggy. And wanting more than 1 bottle. I can't just have 1-2 glasses.

So I now only allow myself 1 bottle a week on a weekend day.
