To lock the jackass in (parking thread)

I live in a rural location which is very popular with walkers / bikers / horse riders etc. It's heaving today for some unknown reason as the weather is rubbish!

We have 2 driveways. One which was with the original cottage then a small bit of garden then a second which leads to the additional land we have. The second driveway the forestry commission have a ROW over as the track continues up into the forest. Next to that driveway is a footpath. Both driveways have gates at either end and both say private property/dogs running loose. (Diagram attached - not to scale!)

I have just had a straw delivery and so opened the second driveway gates to let the farmer in and trundled round the back to show him where to put them. He's unloaded and driven off and I've gone to lock the gates back up. Literally as he's driven off and I'm walking down a guy has pulled in the gates and parked up and 3 kids have jumped out and he started unloading their bikes.

I politely ask him to move as he's on private land and he says there are no signs he thought it was a parking spot. I say they are on the gate and it's clearly an enclosed piece of land that is not a parking space and he says he couldn't see them as the gates were open but he'll only be a few minutes. No problem, I say, I'll pop back and shut the gates in 5. Off I toddle.

I have returned and his car is still there and he has gone. He has left a note on the windscreen which says "had to park here no other spaces". I mean WTF?!

WIBU to shut the gates, padlock the fucker in, block the gates with my truck AND then disappear for at least 48 hours?

You would be unreasonable not to.

Thanks for the diagram, I wouldn't have hot my head round that set-up without one.

Shocking behaviour on his part.

I think by letting him park there for a “few minutes” you left yourself open to this happening . This cf had no intention of moving you should’ve sent him packing instead of letting him tell you he’s parking there !

He had his warning. You can't leave a gate to stables unlocked. What a twat

Absolutely you should. You clearly told him not to park there and that you would be closing the gates in 5 minutes. For all he knows you might have been heading off on holiday and had to secure your property. I would head off out for as long as possible.

You told him you were coming back to shut the gates. More fool him. What damage might he do to you lock/gate knowing he’s an inconsiderate dickhead?

I'd do it too, how fucking cheeky especially after you told him
What happens if you needed emergency access?
Do it and forget about it until he comes knocking

Perhaps pop up a sign with your extortionate parking charges?

I'd leave a note on his car saying. "Sorry, I had to lock the gates and go out"

Secretly I would be available as he had kids with him but I'd make him sweat a bit first.

I can't believe the cheek of some people! Definitely lock him in & when he comes knocking say "I'll only be 5 minutes" and then do nothing. CF!

Of course you should lock him in but he was unloading bikes, why did you believe him when he said he'd be 5 minutes? Where was he going to go after that?

Do it now and post a photo Grin

Do it
Is it possible for him to drive into the garden and get off your land that way via the other drive? Or not?

My favourite type of thread!! Lock him in op chain the gate, park a tractor in the way and let the cf cycle home!!! You know they have their bikes!!!

You told him you were going to lock the gates so do it.

Cheeky bastard.

You would be Unreasonable to NOT block him in, drive off and hit the gin.

HE parked there, he can deal with the fallout. In future - don't agree any amount of time, he's taken a mile when you agreed an inch.

So rude. Lock him in, maybe leave a note explaining you had to lock the gate as you have to go out.

MrsExpo · 31/07/2021 11:10

Lock him in, leave a note and (if you're worried about him having kids with him) add that you'll be back in 4 (5/6?) hours - or whatever timescale you feel is appropriate "punishment" for his c.f. behaviour.
