To Say 'Please Move Away From My Table'

We were in a Wetherspoons yesterday lunchtime (not somewhere we've visited before) and that particular Wetherspoons had the previous restrictions in place, with notices explaining why. Since many restrictions were removed I've still worn a mask in the supermarket, and put one as I'm going into public toilets. Wetherspoons had the plastic screens still in place, but the table we used only had a screen on one side. Our table was in front of the bar. We used the app to order, but a lot of people were ordering at the bar (took 20 bloody minutes to sort it out, so I'm with them).

No problem until people decided to form a queue right next to us at the table as we were eating, even resting on chair-arms. Should have I said, 'please piss off, take yourself three feet away from me', or just put up with it (as we did) until we could get a table outside, which we eventually did.

Restrictions have been legally removed.

If you aren’t ok with this, then you need to be the one to either stay at home, or move further away.

You chose to sit near the bar

Forget covid, its bloody bad manners to be resting your arms on chairs clearly at someone's table.

Although you sat near the bar, I don't think it'd be unreasonable to ask people to stand back. There's no harm in enjoying a bit of normality (sitting indoors near the bar) without people getting too close.

Yeah, this would annoy me any time, pandemic or not!

YABU to patronise Wetherspoons. YANBU to find it stupid that people are so close to you during a pandemic, but if you're in England or Wales your government has said it's OK, no?

You're unreasonable to go to a Weatherspoons - the bloke who owns it was a huge brexit supporter, sacked all his staff at the start of lockdown 1 & told them to go & work at tescos. He's a total knob head & will never get a penny of my money.

YABU for spending your money in a pub owned by that frothing-gammon who supported Brexit.

Yanbu I would have had to ask them to move away .

YABU to go to a Wetherspoons. The restrictions have been removed, if you don’t want people near you it would’ve been best to choose a table away from the bar or it that wasn’t possible come back at a quieter time. Bloody rude for anyone to lean on the back of a chair you’re sat on though! I definitely would’ve said something about that, pandemic aside.

Boycott Wetherspoons!

This is why I don't go to busy pubs. I find crowds like this a pain at the best of times, but especially at the moment.

YABU to be patronising a Weatherspoons and putting more money into the dickhead Tim Martin's pocket.

I do think that ship has sailed OP. The expecting other people to keep their distance one.

It's up to you now to move or not go to crowded places and sit by the bar.

It's not okay in Wales, we still have restrictions in place here.

YANBU. Surely we still keep our distance? Especially if we are going to standing there for a while.

Covid or not, it's a dick move to be close enough to anyone's table to be resting their arms on the chairs so for that alone I would have asked them to piss off.

A million years ago (feels like it) we were in a tiny very popular Mexican restaurant in Harrogate.

It was so small it was beyond friendly, one evening some perma blonde, perched her (granted, tiny arse) on our table, I asked her to move, she did, then she did it again.............Angry

I genuinely chose the wrong moment to bellow at her, take your blonde hair and your brown pubes off my table FUCKING NOW. The music had stopped... Grin

Salsa Posada if anyone remembers it. Grin

I think that's a totally foreseeable consequence of sitting at a table by the bar.

Here we go, it’s started. If you are so concerned, don’t go to……wait for it….a pub i.e a busy hospitality venue. You can’t make up your own rules about telling people to stand a certain distance, wear a mask, blah blah blah.
