AIBU?

Neighbour has (accidentally) emptied pool into my garden!

My garden is completely under water! Was panicking trying to work out where from and spotted my neighbours MASSIVE pool (at least 12 ft) is up against the fence and is leaking fast into my garden from a puncture. I’ve tried phoning and knocking the door of neighbour but no answer, she’s probably in bed. The water is still coming and fast. My flower beds are under at least 8 inches of water and the pool isn’t even half empty! What do I do?

Get in there and drag it away?

Well they haven’t accidentally emptied it in your garden, the pool has burst, little you can do if you can’t contact them, the water will soak into th ground,

Is there a drain you can opening or lift the cover off? Or one on her side of you can gain access to her garden? Otherwise I think it may be hopeless

Do you have gaffer tape? Can you get into her garden?

Gate is locked, already tried. I’m debating climbing the fence but then how do you even move a pool that size?

Do you know any other neighbours that might have a phone number for them?

Knock and keep knocking?

If it has chlorine in, won't it kill your garden?

Report
LtDansleg · 22/07/2021 22:47

If it’s full of chlorine then your gardens fucked

Ok my son is climbing the fence now. The water has now reached the opposite side of the garden.

If you think she is in the house wake her up, it's her problem to fix. I'm not entirely sure what she will be able to do about it though. Best option is try to use something to try and redirect the flow of water because you aren't going to be able to empty the pool or fix the hole fast enough to make any difference.

Bang on the door wake her up? 🤷‍♀️

What do I do? nothing it’s just water.

Have you got a hose? You could try and put one end in the flooded bit and the other in a drain to redirect it.

Also, take some pictures in case you need to claim on their insurance.

I would just leave it tbh and check it in the morning. Sleep with armbands on just in case Grin

@Bluntness100 That’s why I said accidentally.

@LtDansleg I have neighbours phone number but no answer, probably in bed. They are not normally late people.

I know you're gutted about your garden. But realistically - what are you expecting your neighbour to do about a burst pool?

Surely the water will just soak into the ground? Like it does when it rains!

Sorry OP, sounds like a nightmare. Keep trying to wake them up, though not sure what they can do.

Also, what a waste of water.

Does their garden slope into yours? If not, get a bucket and start bailing?

Report
CaffeineAndNicotine · 22/07/2021 22:50

What a nightmare! Can you block the flow with something?

Hell of a lot of water and as the ground is very dry it will take a long time to soak in and will potentially wash away your plants/top soil etc.

I would be banging on her door until she gets up.

It might be just water but it’s over 5000L, probably full of chlorine, being emptied onto my garden, flower beds etc. at great speed.
