AIBU?

To think a lot of people are completely stupid?

Someone posted a photo on a Facebook group of a Fabulosa product that is mean to keep artificial lawn clean and smelling nice. Said product is rammed full of toxic chemicals that are harmful to humans, animals and the environment. Hundreds of comments of people praising the product, tagging their mates in it. Lots of people going to be buying it, damaging the environment, probably harming their cats and dogs in the process. So bloody stupid. This cleaning craze of fabulosa and zeflora is beyond stupid.

Saw another post where people where complaining about paper straws and posting links of where others could purchase plastic straws. I mean, sure, I preferred plastic straws. They didn't go soggy and disintegrate half way through a drink but really, it's a small sacrifice to make. It's stupid and selfish.

Spoke to several people recently, ages varying between 20s and late 50s. None of them aware of who the suffragettes were.

So AIBU to think that so many people really are just stupid?

Are you aware of who the suffragettes were? Cos there is a good chance you aren’t. Of course you’ll go and look them up now and claim you knew all along….

People don’t know what they don’t know. Then they find out, then they do know. It’s not related to intelligence or otherwise

I recently saw a Facebook advert selling a, “toy dog that looked and behaved like a real puppy” and was accompanied by a video of an actual husky puppy being walked and jumping around.

The amount of people in the comments that were upset because they received a crap soft toy that…surprise surprise, didn’t behave like an ACTUAL real life husky was quite something to behold.

And the people that write ‘blue’ or ‘white’ into the Facebook posts that say, “tell us what Range Rover colour you’d like in the comments and we will send the winner a Range Rover in the colour of their choice” or the “ASDA are giving away a £500 voucher” posts.

Thick as arseholes.

Why would I use that example if I wasn't aware of who they were? I used it specifically because I was so shocked that quite a few people didn't know who they were. I thought every one knew about them. Especially women.

And a lot of people don't seem willing or interested in expanding their knowledge despite the fact it's easy to do nowadays with 1001 ways to do so. Seems a lot of people who rather remain ignorant.

Are they stupid? No.

No @blaisealex. Most people are talking about the suffregands when they think they are talking about the suffragettes, and you might well be too.

I'm definitely talking about the suffragettes. But the people I was referring to hadn't heard of either the suffragettes or the suffragists. They were unaware of any kind of women's movement.

Do you go round randomly asking people (aged between 20 and 50) general knowledge questions?
How odd.

The Suffragettes took up quite a big chunk of Mary Poppins.

Everyone’s seen that.

People are definitely more thick nowadays. No critical thinking, no initiative, nothing

The average GCSE attainment in the U.K. is something like 5 grade Cs. To me that seems quite low, but whether these people just struggle or havent been given opportunities I can’t say. I’m not sure I’d use not knowing who the suffragettes are honestly makes a huge difference in day to day life.....not understanding interest rates is a far bigger problem for many people, having no clue about basic first aid, wandering round your house in winter in shorts and a t shirt with the heating on full blast and the windows open, driving without a seatbelt, smoking.....id classify all of those above not knowing who the suffragettes are.

I don't know if its so much that people are thick as they just don't care.
A lot of my close family drive massive cars, use fabulosa/zoflora by the gallon, don't recycle anything. Because as far as they are concerned they'll be dead by the time the planet is ruined so who cares. :(

I don't think you know what you're talking about either.

I bloody love zoflora. I do recycle the bottles if that gives me back any extra eco karma points ?

I do think you have to be pretty blind to the world around you not to have heard of the suffragettes. Also I think most people are talking about the suffragettes rather than suffragists when they say suffragettes because the suffragettes were the exciting lot you learn about in school.

I don't understand how suffragettes and zoflora are related? I probably am stupid tho

The number of parents on my local FB group who buy helium balloons or even worse massive balloon arches just for bubba's first birthday (or actually any reason at all) honestly shocks me. How can they not know??

For a short while, I worked in the emergency department of a hospital and there I learned I will never cease to be surprised at the potential stupidity of your average human.

Also, I was at a beautiful place today (English heritage site) and saw an empty pouch of Ella's baby food just left on a path. You don't come more stupid than that.

I think lots of people are also very selfish and self centred. It’s not necessarily that they don’t know eg about helium balloons being terrible for the environment, it’s that they don’t care.
