AIBU?

DH thinks this is disgusting

Feel free to absolutely let me have it but me out please.
We live in a house with a downstairs toilet/bathroom which is the absolute bane of my existence 🙄
I'm 33 weeks pregnant so I feel like I need to have a wee basically every half hour these days. I've been managing going downstairs every night when I wake up for the past few months but I've reached the end of my tether. I just can't do it anymore 😭😭 My back aches, my bump is in the way, I'm exhausted and nauseated and I'm just ready to have baby already 😑
I need multiple trips to the toilet and I just can handle going downstairs that many times in one night.

So yes I have bought myself a little travel potty with a lid which I use. 🙈🙈🙈
It's out on the landing so not in our bedroom and I empty it and clean it first thing in the morning I swear!

It's made such a difference to me but DH thinks it's absolutely disgusting.
I know he has every right to think that but what would you do in my shoes 😅 AIBU?

I also nearly tripped on the stairs a few times because I'm half asleep going down them.
We're currently house hunting and definitely won't be making the same mistake going for downstairs loo.

I think when he had to go through 9 months of pregnancy then his opinion counts...

Do what you need to do for your comfort!

I lived in a house like that whilst I was pregnant and was seriously considering getting a commode by the end of it

I don’t blame you at all

I agree it’s gross, but your safety and comfort trump anything. Tell him you’re carrying his child and get to be as disgusting as you want! 😆

No I think it's a good idea to make yourself more comfortable Smile

He needs to get a grip. I hate this type of behaviour, would he rather you struggle than him be 'disgusted' ?!

I don’t think it’s gross at all - it’s very sensible.

He does realise that potty training his child is round the corner doesn't he?

And that in your old age one of you might need a commode and/or help with toileting?

He sounds quite pathetic really. He needs to grow up.

The only think I would say, is that if it's on a carpet, accidents happen so I'd put an incontinence square or large puppy training pad under it.

It's not disgusting at all. Hasn't he ever been to hospital?

Tell him he'll be entitled to an opinion when he has a 5lb human being dancing on his bladder all night. Until then, his view's aren't welcome.

I know I feel so bad but I just refuse to make those trips downstairs every night. I just keep telling him, only a few more weeks of this now lol 😆🙈

The only thing that's unreasonable is the concept of a massively pregnant woman crouching over a potty. Get a commode before you do yourself an injury!

Why have you been going to the downstairs toilet?

He's going to be in for a shock with nappies & toilet training isn't he?

He'll be potty training a child in a couple of years! Not disgusting it's actually a great solution I wish I thought of it when pregnant as our only bathroom is downstairs too

Jeez - don’t feel bad.
It’s really not gross. It’s just piss.
He’d better get used to it. Plus shit.
He’s going to be dealing with an awful lot of both, plus puke, over the coming years.

I wonder if you'd be better standing with a shewee?

Why have you been going to the downstairs toilet?

Probably because there isn't one upstairs. Plenty of us live in houses with the only toilet/bathroom downstairs.

Good luck to him when it comes to potty training a toddler. He needs to get over it.

Does he realise how you'll be when you give birth?
You won't be jogging downstairs during the night then either to go for a wee!

Could he be less sympathetic and understanding? Do exactly whatever you need to do to survive the end of your pregnancy.

I did this at 37 weeks pregnant whilst we had the bathroom done - it was a toilet bucket from Amazon, probably comfier than a potty?

Its not ideal but like you I just couldn't do it any longer! Tough what your DH thinks, it's hardly forever!

Eloquently said, Mintjulia.
You could print this out and pin it to the wall next to your…erm… temporary arrangements:

If he thinks it’s disgusting he needs to find a solution that doesn’t involve you traipsing up and down the stairs that frequently whilst you have pregnancy pains

How did you cope?! Sometimes I feel like by the time I'm halfway upstairs I need the loo again. Pregnancy is not fun 😭😭
