AIBU?

To want covid vaccine even though bf says I cant

So my bf lives with his mum who is pretty old. Apparently her dr has said she shouldn't have the covid vaccine as it's not safe and no one who has had it can come into contact with her for 10 days. So my bf says Im not allowed to have it done. As far as I know the vaccine can't shed and if his mum is old (80s but otherwise healthy) she will be fine having the jab herself! She believes crystals heal....

I'm pretty well educated and they are starting to make me doubt myself, Im booked to have first dose tomorrow (my hometown has had a massive surge in cases) but I'm scared of the fallout if I do. AIBU just to go have it done even though he says I cant?

You are in charge of your own health. Your BF is making things up likely to cover his own anti vas views. If he thinks that then he doesn’t see yo7 for 10 days and maybe you realise you don’t miss him.
Get it, and then maybe her crystal healer “doctor” can crack on.

It’s not up to him at all, and it won’t impact her at all if you get it (except perhaps making it safer for her for you to be in her company) don’t feel bad and to be honest I probably just wouldn’t say I had it at all to save all stress. They sound a bit odd though!!!!

Your boyfriend's mother's doctor did not tell her not to have the covid vaccine.

Rubbish. No GP would say she shouldn't have it unless there's a medical reason. Are you sure your BF is telling the truth? There's no need to avoid her for 10 days. I'd be avoiding her permanently!

Why don’t you just have and not see her for 10 days? What’s the big deal? He’s a dick if he’s forbidding you from having a vaccine

Your BF has no say in your health. Your body your rules.

No NHS doctor would say that. Either your BF or his mum or both are cuckoo.

They're deliberately lying to you.

If your boyfriend's mother's doctor had actually said this, they could be reported to the GMC. But they didn't really, he's just spouting bollocks.

Sorry, but he’s being a dick!
Why would you having the vaccine impact on his mother anyway??

Thank you, we had a big argument because I said no GP would say not to have the vaccine! Just all the nastiness I started to doubt myself!

Aye, right.

The doctor did not say that. Someone is lying. Of course you should have your vaccine.

  1. have the jab tomorrow as planned.
  2. get yourself a nice boyfriend who has an IQ in at least double figures.

I'm not allowed to see him for 10 days after vaccine either apparently... Because he lives with his mum (at 43) he says he will take it home with him. Never mind the countless people they both see everyday, it's just a control thing I think. I was starting to doubt my stance on this so thank you for reassuring me

Have the vaccine, ditch the lying/stupid/controlling boyfriend.

Not impossible that a gp would advise against it (think unlikely) but absolute bobbins that you should be avoided for 10 days after having it.

Get the vaccine. Dump the bloke.

What exactly will he take home with him? He’s a knob

There are some medical conditions which mean you cannot safely receive some vaccinations. But as most don't shed (the notable (only current?) exception being the flu nasal one), the rest is bollocks, so I very much doubt any doctor said anything of the sort.

Either your bf is lying or he is a massive numpty for believing his mother's lies.

Either way you need to learn that you are responsible for your own health, nobody else gets to tell you what you do with your body.

The doctor might have said that if she had an allergy to something in the vaccine.

However that's irrelevant. He cannot tell you not to have the vaccine, that's your choice. If he and his mum choose not to see you for 10 days after that's their choice even if it's based on nonsense reasons.

To clarify a gp might advise against it due to medical conditions but no gp will say it’s not safe. This is a total lie.
