AIBU?

To be over having to give up EVERYTHING due to perimenopause

Edenspirits · 18/06/2021 20:39

  • Can’t tolerate alcohol anymore- even a couple of drinks give me a massive hangover
  • Bread makes me massively bloated and I have to really watch what I eat as I get piled really easily 🙄
  • Chocolate gives me a headache
  • Tea gives me a massive headache
  • have to watch everything I eat as the slightest deviation and I put on half a stone by barely looking
  • the slightest deviation to my routine and I don’t sleep 😴

I feel like I barely recognise my own body!

Sigh- it’s SO dull!
Aibu to be really really really over perimenopause! Waiting for HRT from the doc and ready hope it helps!

Completely sympathise - I have horrendous anxiety, palpitations, am awake from 3 or 4 am every night, crawling sensation in lower legs and feet, hair like straw.

I also gave in and contacted the doctor this week about HRT - if I can only just get some semblance of a normal sleep pattern back I will be happy.

Good luck with your HRT!

Oh god yes. Everything. Just everything. My anxiety is through the roof. I’m two sizes bigger and it won’t shift. Fed up now. But I’m only 45 and years of this shit left.

Yes, it's pants.

It’s fucking rubbish!

I’m 48, bloated, spotty and I feel so shitty.

As if periods weren’t bad enough and now this bollocks!

I’m off to drink Rum and get shit-faced.

HRT has been life changing for me. I have a mirena so just needed the oestrogen gel. It's amazing!

Report
eleflump · 18/06/2021 20:57

expressomartiniftw that's the combination my doctor recommended- please can I ask which symptoms it helped you with?

It's bollocks, absolute bollocks.

The bloating is truly awful and I am putting on weight in places I never have before.
Also, in the words of Martin Goodman, most of the time I am so hot I could rip my skin off.

I am 46 in a fortnight so still have years of this shit ahead.

Holy fuck - are you me??

I had a total hysterectomy last year and am now on HRT, but I have exactly the same problems and it sucks. A lot.

Sadly, I can't take hrt (I've tried and it caused serious side effects)
I'm 48 and have been in peri since I was 40
I've decided recently that I'm leaning into it 😬
It won't last forever and I make sure I treat myself to things that make it more bearable for me...
Neom candles, sleep spray, magnesium body butter
Proper Green tea
Supplements: magnesium, potassium, b bits and vit d
Good quality food/fruit/veg
Lightweight good quality clothes
Bralettes as I can't bear underwires anymore
Fancy shampoo, body cream, bath oils, exfoliator etc
And yoga...honestly it helps!

Oh!
And a portable air con unit!!!!! 😃

Mrs why do you think it won't last forever? The hormones will get less and less. Sad Menopause is a permanent state.

Jasmine11 · 18/06/2021 21:15

I'd recommend a book called Hormone Intelligence by Dr Aviva Romm. Really good advice and info. Perimenopause doesn't have to be hell.

Until I came on Mumsnet I didn't know the difference!

I thought all this stuff started when your periods stopped.

It's a godsend sometimes on here.

So far I have the following

Struggle to lose weight
Shitty heavy periods that last longer (I used to be three days and light)
Being a crank about everything
Forgetting things
Off sex
Moodiness
Being over emotional
Bloating

I could go on. I'm 41!

At what point do you ask the doctor for help? At what point can they help you?

8 years since last period, no it never really goes away. It waxes and wanes. Food intolerances are bloody boring, caffeine, alcohol, tomatoes, onions, bread, lactose, chocolate, some mornings if I consume the above I am glued to the loo until empty. Have had all the tests, colonoscopy, gastroscopy. Everything normal sigh..

Anyone mentioned the brain fog? The eye sight and hearing deterioration about the same time. Maybe that's just me?

Report
Pinkcadillac · 18/06/2021 21:19

@Mrs08 can you recommend a magnesium body butter and supplement? I have tried magnesium citrate (I think that's the name) and gave me terrible stomach aches

And, Has anyone been successful with slow release melatonin for the 3 am awakes?

It's awful, really awful. I had to look at CCTV at work today and saw this fat old woman wandering around and the fat old woman was me. I am beyond distraught. I am certainly not the person I was 2 years ago, no periods but no energy, aching joints, constantly tired and grumpy. I wont consider HRT because I have a tendency to grow lumps and bumps and dont want to risk it.

Edenspirits · 18/06/2021 21:23

Sorry so many of you are going through it too. I feel a bit like a shadow of my former self at the moment 😣

It is utter UTTER pants, but I'm nearly out the other side now. I can drink red wine without getting a headache for the first time in my life.
