AIBU?

Fucking barbecues

I live in a quiet part of a street, and we're mid terrace. Every neighbour has decided to have a fucking barbecue, every day. Don't get me wrong, it's up too them in their own gardens but does no one have any common courtesy anymore to knock or shout over the fence as say 'oh we're having a barbecue, you might want to take your washing in!' I'm getting so sick of it. We can't have a out back doors open because the smell is so strong and the smoke so intense it just smothers everything. I used to really love summer and now thanks to people who really don't give a shit, it gets ruined. Can't sit in the garden as you other get smoked out of some twat kicks a fucking ball over the fence, or even worse at your fence. Roll on a lottery win so I can move to a house in a big field!

Smothering everything? A bbq or a bonfire?

You’re being a killjoy. Have your own BBQ, the weather is amazing. Invite your neighbours over, you might even like them.

A BBQ doesn't usually chuck out much smoke, or smell. Especially gas barbecues which most people use these days. Or do you mean a bonfire? If its bonfires every day, YANBU. But BBQs aren't that antisocial

Anything that directly affects others should be thought about, be it bbqs, loud music, noise of any other kind, littering, dog shit etc, unless you live somewhere isolated

Barbecues are so 1990 - raclette is the way forward.

I completely agree with you OP. Hate them.

Don't be silly. What a non-issue. I love the summer for that sort of smell and only have a problem with loud music.

I’m with you OP. I’m veggie and don’t really want all my lovely clean clothes smelling of roasted carcass. 😩

The smell can be very strong and does carry.

I mean it happens every sunny weekend day so it’s not like it’s unexpected… and I’ve never had a bbq affect my washing

I think you need to do your neighbours a favour and move to the middle of nowhere!!

You’re also exaggerating somewhat about the smoke and the smell. I’ve just had a bbq with an airer full of towels out at the same time. Just brought them in and they don’t smell. At all. Think you need to get a grip. Big style.

Of course having been immersed in the smell for a couple of hours you couldn’t possibly have gotten used to it.

YANBU - we acquired a new neighbour last summer who’s a BBQ freak but every single time he knocks on my door beforehand to give me the heads up so I can get my washing in and close the patio doors.
I really appreciate it. Smile

Congratulations. I only get one day a week to do the washing so often have 2-3 loads out.

Guy 3 doors down is a butcher. Seems to have introduced smokers and wood chips and all sorts to various neighbours.

I normally don't mind it but angry tonight with neighbours. Desperately trying to get some washing dry for the morning so a few bits left on the line. They have lit a smoker on their BBQ, so much smoke and washing needed for first thing tomorrow stinks. I'm mad!

A barbeque really shouldn't smell bad. So many smell of smoke, petrol and burning fat.

Report
Polodriversclub · 13/06/2021 19:14

I did say its up to them, so please don't call me a killjoy when all I ask is common courtesy to fetch my washing in. And yes, Bbq's not bonfires although from the amount of fatty smoke they generate they might as well be bonfires!

I've been to plenty of Barbecues where they are done properly and don't generate any smell but chucking fat straight on to burning coal stinks!

No one cares about anyone else it seems. It's all about me me me. I was brought up differently to have a bit of thought and care for others.
