AIBU?

Boris Johnson in the sea

Did anyone else find the coverage of this mildly annoying. I found it to be so for three reasons -

  1. the BBC commentator made a joke about “oh is that Angela Merkel a bit further out?” Boris is the size he is, but if it were a woman of a similar size the papers would have a field day (or just any female politician of any size tbh).

  2. He has then set it up so that he is filmed walking down the beach with his shirt off. Carrie, of course, can’t be pictured in a swimsuit because of the way the press / society is, so she’s walking alongside in a long dress (even though she’s 20 years younger and the rest of it).

  3. I can’t stand him anyway.

100% YANBU.
The very thought of Boris shirt on or off is quite nauseating.

Um, I didn't really want to see Boris in the sea, but I don't think the press would dare say anything negative about a woman's body these days.

I wish Trudeau would get shirtless though. Any pics of that?

Not a pretty sight, and I agree, a female of that size would be ridiculed for a similar display. I'm surprised he didn't have Union Jack shorts though, get his fan base gurning a bit more.

He’s PR obsessed. He knew that would take column inches from the utter shambles that is his trade policy.
Cynical bit of diversion.

And rather Putinesque, showing how brave and manly he is. Pathetic.

God forbid someone swims in the sea. In Cornwall. During a heatwave.

Utterly unheard of.

He deserved a nice swim. It's June, he's worked his socks off for the last couple of years, had a baby, been ill, got married etc.

When we go to Cornwall for a couple of nights I like to have a swim. It relaxes me and clears my head.

Why on earth would you have a problem with it?

Report
sambaa · 13/06/2021 14:31

It’s not the fact he’s swimming per se, it’s the fact is a blatant PR stunt.

It is one of the best swimming beaches in the world; the geography means that it has a shallow slope, moderately calm waters (compared to other local beaches), and few strong currents. There has been so much disruption to the locals that I thought it was nice to see the sea being appreciated.

BJ has family ties to the area. I can’t quite work out if it was a relative or a holiday home but it seems likely that he has spent a lot of time on Carbis Bay over the years. If I were there I would definitely get in the sea.

Disclaimer: in general I can’t stand BJ, hate almost all of his policies, cannot believe people voted for him, or the complete clusterfuck that has been his leadership. But I don’t begrudge him a swim.

She didn’t swim so was obviously fully dressed.

Maybe a passer by saw him and he misinterpreted the shouts of 'get in the sea!'

He was brought up and homeschooled in Somerset before he went to Eton

After reading threads on here recently where people were slammed for making any comment at all about Carrie (even saying she looked nice - apparently we aren’t supposed to notice) I’m surprised that people are coming on here slagging off Boris’ body

Why is this ok?

He’s an embarrassment, sacked as a journalist twice for lying. Now he’s in the position of his dreams , he can lie with impunity.
The New York Times just described him as..” a terrible leader..clownish…venal…incompetent…slapdash…a greased piglet…involved in dodgy dealings, sleaze and chumocracy.”

I'm going to take a wild guess that it's because 128,000 of our friends, relatives and countrymen have died because of his covid policies, and that's the tip of the iceberg.

And that has what relevance to him swimming in the sea? I detest him but this is beyond bonkers.

Boris is always prompting himself

Agree if a women we would have mentions of her swimsuit and underhand remarks about her body oh she wasn’t shy to go in the see ie. she should be hiding her body or she swam gracefully and was no bothered by the temperature ie. she looked good and has a body to show off

I remember Boris attending a mosque while he was mayor of London and opps silly man he was wearing unmatching socks and hadn’t noticed until it was pointed out to him haha Hmm

Everything is contrived and always has been he is a master at it that’s why he is PM

To be fair, I think it’s more that you just don’t like him, which is fair enough, but I’m guessing anyone was free to swim if they wanted.

Jewel

So you hold him responsible for covid deaths. And that makes it acceptable to comment on his body?

Not following the logic, unless it’s playground rules.
