To have made DD give back the vending machine freebie?

DH thinks I am.

I allowed DD to buy some crisps from the vending machine at the swimming pool after her lesson. I paid for one packet. It dispensed two. I made her give the second one back to a nearby member of staff.

The leisure centre staff look after the vending machines and could restock it, so it would have felt dishonest to walk off with both packs. I wouldn't be bothered if it wasn't obvious who to give it to.

Was I right or a right mean mother?

I would have kept both packets personally but I'm clearly not as honest!

Hohoholymoley Tue 04-May-21 19:04:38

Ah come on. Everyone knows it's a gift.

MichelleScarn Tue 04-May-21 19:05:01

Young me would have said 'yaaaay vendie freebie!' And revelled in it given the bloody mark up they charge!

Drbrowns Tue 04-May-21 19:05:06

Definitely would have kept.

fairynick Tue 04-May-21 19:05:25

You can’t be serious hahahahahhahaha

BergamotMouse Tue 04-May-21 19:05:45

I used to love it when that happened. I'd never thing to give it back.

I bet the member of staff ate them grin

LaceyBetty Tue 04-May-21 19:05:47

Lol! I'd never have thought to do that blush Good for you actually.

EssentialHummus Tue 04-May-21 19:06:28

Oh come on! It’s a vending machine error, not slipping a choc bar from Tesco into her pocket.

OneEpisode Tue 04-May-21 19:06:28

With DC I would have handed back. At work we would have shared the bonus packet.

GinAndTonicOnIt Tue 04-May-21 19:06:29

I'd have kept them. I think to give them back is a really weird thug to do

AmbientLighting Tue 04-May-21 19:06:30

YABU

weareallpassengers Tue 04-May-21 19:07:08

I would have kept. ..sometimes doesn't dispense properly. ..sometimes you win sometimes you lose

LettyLoman Tue 04-May-21 19:07:30

The people who own the machine ie Nestle or walkers, They have people come out to restock and take money. I don’t think leisure centre staff do that anymore. They probably ate the crisps.

womaninatightspot Tue 04-May-21 19:08:01

There have been times where I've been shafted by vending machines I.e. put your money in and nothing comes out so when I get two of something (rarely) I'd think of it as karmic balance smile

Happycat1212 Tue 04-May-21 19:08:34

Lol how sad, bet the worker thought you was mad

Very true!

MyDcAreMarvel Tue 04-May-21 19:09:18

I would have ate them.

olympicsrock Tue 04-May-21 19:09:21

Vending machine karma - you lose far more often than you win!

BlowDryRat Tue 04-May-21 19:09:56

blush oh dear. The staff there already think I'm a nutter for various reasons.

I would have kept it. Also a victim of being shafted by the vending machine.

kowari Tue 04-May-21 19:11:10

Would have kept. They often fail to give you anything, then if you don't have the money for a second item you have to do without. Probably what happened is that someone else missed out before you and you got both items. So it all evens out.

CoolCatTaco Tue 04-May-21 19:12:01

Jesus, sounds a bit joyless, are you always so straight laced? It was a gift from the gods - your DD's gift - and you should have let her have them! I bet the staff thought you were nuts (as they ate the crisps...)

Woodpecker22 Tue 04-May-21 19:12:11

I used to deliberately target the items that were hanging out in the hope I would get two. It sometimes worked.

Lou98 Tue 04-May-21 19:12:33

Do people actually give it back? Even as an adult I keep the second chocolate bar or whatever 🙈😂

One in my last office used to have one of the sections where it was broken slightly so always pushed out two, everyone that worked there purposely chose that one so they could get two
