AIBU?

AIBU to expect a teacher (primary) to know my DC DOB and congratulate on the day?

My DS had a birthday today and his teacher hasn't said anything. I'm not sure if it's a done thing to congratulate kids in class on their birthday, though. It was when I was in school (different country). He said the school didn't know it was his BD today (he was there since nursery) and he said it didn't bother him, but he's quite shy and difficult to read, so I think he was hurt but wouldn't admit it.
WIBU to expect a teacher to say "Happy Birthday"? And would you drop a line to the teacher to remind them?

Do you really expect a teacher to know the birthdays of every child in the class?
Did you not send him wearing a badge?

I am sorry but you are being wholly unreasonable.

As a teacher, there is no way I would know when all of the birthdays in my class are. Nor would I bother to make the time to do it. I would expect the child or the child's friends to tell me and then I would make a fuss. You are being massively precious.

You don't think maybe teachers have enough to do already?

At our school we celebrate all the birthdays that week in assembly. Also it's pretty unreasonable to expect a teacher to remember the birth dates of every child in their class!

And this is why I get mine a birthday badge! I hope he had a good birthday otherwise 😊.

Surely the sweets you sent in for him to give the rest of the class were all the reminder she needs....

I'm having difficulty taking this seriously.

This is why you send them in with a big obnoxious badge!
No way does a teacher have the brain space to remember everyone’s birthday.

Yes definitely! All teacher's in my DC school make a big deal of birthdays. DD1 had her birthday the week before school returned and the whole class still sang happy birthday to her when they restarted. Literally costs nothing but makes each child feel special for a day.

What?! Are you serious. Honest to god I'm sure some batty people sit by their computer in cahoots as to who can make up the most batbshit crazy thread.
No op, it is impossible for a teacher, or anyone I would imagine, to remember 30 (often more!) Birthdays.

Did you tell the teacher, did your child, or do you expect her to be a mid reader

It was my DS's birthday yesterday, Year 6, his teacher didn't know it was his birthday, he didn't care and I didnt care. I know when I was at school you got to wear a paper crown (possibly the Burger King one) during lunchtime when it was your birthday.

When my DD was in primary, the teacher knew when it was a child's birthday because they went in wearing a big "I am 6/7/8" badge, possibly had a cake and almost always gave the teacher a bag of sweets to distribute at home time. So s/he couldn't not know!

I don't think it is unreasonable for a teacher not to know birthdays, but I would like to think that if I was a teacher I would make a note of it and wish the birthday child a Happy Birthday.

Our school, all classes have the birthdays in the wall in each class and they do sing happy birthday.

However you're school obviously don't do this so there's no way I'd be messaging a teacher to remind them.

I think they should have known it was his bday - our children's primary school always remembered - but I really don't think you should email them now.

Oh what? No. The teacher was probably thinking about something else - like teaching?

How old? If primary I know all my students bdays (not by memory!) and give them a card and something out the little prize box.

I always send mine with a badge and treats to share, and they getade a fuss of.

Everyone in the school has a photo with date on and it is pinned onto their birthday month on a frieze in the hall. Each week in assembly, that week's birthdays get HB sung to them. At the beginning of each term anyone who has had a bd in the holiday is celebrated.

If you don't give them some clues how would they know?

At my dds' primary, on their birthday they were allowed to wear their own clothes and take cake/sweets in for the class. Since the new headteacher though, all that has stopped. Such a shame as the kids loved it.

But I wouldn't expect a teacher to know every birthday.
