To think he might need to go to hospital? Don’t look at the image if you’re eating

Long story short, DH ended up with this nasty graze after playing sport at the weekend.

It’s hot, he’s in agony, but we’re not sure whether to just let him ride it out. He covered it in Savlon this morning (which apparently you’re not supposed to do) and so it’s been wet and bandaged all day while he’s been at work. I tried one of those GP video call things but they’re closed now. Wondering whether it’s worth a trip to the hospital or just wait for it to heal? We don’t want to waste anyone’s time!

Call 111. It's what they're there for.

Do you have a minor injury unit nearby?

Report

If it is hot might be infected so yes to hospital

Wow that looks sore Shock poor chap!!

I'd agree with calling 111

Have you washed the savlon off?

I'd put fresh aloe Vera on that and it'll heal

A friend of mine is currently off his feet for 12 weeks while a similar injury heals because he ignored it when it got hot and sore. Better to be safe than sorry. If you have a minor injuries that's probably best but otherwise I'd head to A&E

Where was I reading that cyclists scrub injuries like that to remove all the gravel? Apparently agony but worth it to prevent infection. If it’s hot, I’d be off to minor injuries.

That makes me go all funny 🙈
I’d say 111

If it is hot I would definitely call 111. In the meantime keep it covered to prevent infection and it needs to be moist to heal.

Ouch! Is it weeping?
I probably would clean it, use savlon and bandage it up. Keep an eye on it if it starts weeping/ smells/pain continues. What’s wrong with Savlon?Confused

not a doctor!

That looks like a degloving injury (has taken skin off). I would take any solutions off and go to your local walk in clinic. He may develop cellulitis and infection (may have already started if red and swollen).

Yes, take him to A&E. It shouldn't be hot.

Generally wounds only need water ( tap water is fine ) to clean , best not to use any kind of greasy creams as they can irritate subcutaneous tissue.

Phone GP for urgent app in the morning. Doesn’t need A and E.

Could he poo to a pharmacist? They would be best placed to advise as they could see the wound first hand.

Sorry but that had my howling!

Agree it shouldn't be left if it's hot.

Draw round the edge of the redness with a sharpie if it's growing he needs treatment if shrinking leave it alone. Seek medical attention if your DH has a fever or starts feeling or being sick (I am a doctor and this what I would do).

Oh crikey that's looks so, so sore. I would call 111 if no Minor Injuries Unit nearby, see what they advise.

Report
DonLewis · 12/04/2021 20:28

I'd bathe that in salt water or cooled boiled water and take a couple of painkillers. If that doesn't help, I'd call 111 or go to minor injuries.

Has he taken his temperature?

Go to the hospital,I honestly wouldn't bother with 111,if its hot he's got an infection and the fact that it's very painful as well,he more than likely needs antibiotics and if it's bad enough he might need them via a drip.

Good luck, hope they sort it out quickly for your poor DH.

Howling at "Poo to a pharmacist"

Report
AnnaMagnani · 12/04/2021 20:32

There is absolutely nothing that is improved by Savlon.

It does now look like he may need antibiotics - call 111 or trip to A+E.
