Frames above babies bed. Learn from my mistakes

When my mum pointed out maybe I shouldn't have frames above my babies cot I just thought of all the Instagram nursery inspo pictures I'd seen and thought that she was being irrational. She wasn't, at some point last night/this morning my toddler either pulled down a print, or it fell down. We woke up this morning to screaming from the baby monitor, pulled the covers back to find broken glass everywhere, the frame and blood on the mattress Sad Cuts to 4 fingers on one hand, 2 on the other, the palms of the hands, cheeks, belly. I've cried all day, been to A&E, we're home now and I'm feeling like the worst mum in the world. Please learn from my mistakes, it could of been so much worse Sad

Random bad accidents happen, you aren't a bad mum. Try to get things back to a calm state and move on, better for you all.

You poor thing, what a shock that must have been for you and your toddler. Is she ok?

Yep, frames above bed not a good idea. Nor are shelves holding up pictures, or those canopy things, or cot bumpers or lots of stuffed toys in the bed. Safest cots are clear, flat, mattress with no hazards on.

Dont stress now, your child will recover quickly and likely not have any damage. Plenty of cuddles and some hot tea for you.

Practical note - have you thoroughly cleaned / vacuumed the cot? Small bits of glass can get in all sorts of places. Flowers for you

My dad put book shelves up on the wall over my pillow.

Fell on my head at least twice that I remember before they moved the bed :D

Accidents happen and hour baby will be fine.

Can I just say one thing though, no where in the house should you have glass framed prints. It should always be safety glass. You visibly can’t tell th difference, but it’s plastic and doesn’t smash. If you have other pics with glass in you should change them out.

Sending huge hugs op.

Going forward, depending on what's on your wall, you can get really lovely wall stickers of you just wanted to pretty up the room.

Lots of hugs today and a good cry and a glass of whatever you need. It was an accident, it's done, it'll never happen again xx

Oh OP, please don't beat yourself up. I probably would have done exactly the same as you if I'd found a print I liked. Instead I chose wall stickers of a rainbow, clouds and raindrops. I didn't stick them down well enough obviously as toddler DD spent a happy night peeling off the raindrop stickers and eating them.
I noticed they were missing the next morning and she spent the next 24 hours pooing raindrop stickers. Obviously she wasn't hurt but I could just have easily put a frame up like you. Accidents and mistakes happen and that doesn't make you a bad mum, I'm sure you won't do it again. Sending very best wishes to your little one, I hope they are feeling better very soon.

You've been unlucky that's all. You're clearly a fab mum who wanted her baby's room to be beautiful and inspiring for them.
Glad no serious harm done. My nephew cut his hand badly last year, he's been sitting on the worktop licking the bowl whilst baking and slipped off bowl in hand. Freak accident. I bought them a melamine bowl to replace it Grin
Put a poster up over the cot and let it go.

Sorry to hear your little one got hurt. I thinks it's very good of you to share your story on here for the benefit of others. I shall pass the message on to mum groups I'm in.

Accidents happen op. All the time. DC 2 was in the kitchen with his dad when he was 2 and knocked a just boiled mug of water all over himself. He suffered 3rd degree burns. No one was at fault it was a complete freak accident.

One of my first memories is a massive glass framed poster falling on me whilst I was asleep in bed.Didn't cut me but I took a big bump to the head and it really scared me.

Hope your little one is okay now and you shouldn't blame yourself. We had a glass frame up on the wall next to the bed and one night in the middle of the night it fell down and smashed everywhere next to the cot.
I hate the insta worthy nursery pics with photos above a babies cot it always makes me feel nervous now.

Oh OP, what a shock for you! I hope you and baby are both recovered soon. Your little one won’t remember this- although I know you will!

You’re not a “bad mum” as your name suggests. Not at all. The obvious guilt is how you know you’re not a bad mum!
You’re just a mum who made a slightly daft decision, that could easily have been fine, and were just unlucky that on this occasion it wasn’t.

We’ve all done daft stuff that’s impacted on our kids (I was dog tired once and forgot to close the baby gate when DS was two and he fell down the stairs and cut his eyebrow, quite badly). Friend of mine dropped her baby off the bed when he was a few days old and called me in hysterics. My sister accidentally caught her little girls skin between two poppers on her vest and bruised her horribly.
All the babies were fine.
It’s just (one of the worst) part of parenting.

I hope you can let this go, in time Flowers

You're not a bad mum. You learned the hard way that our mums know what they're on about (sometimes).

Easy now, try to relax, all is well, the what-ifs can retreat.

An entire oil painting fell on my head when I was a baby - luckily the painting came off worse.

That must have been scary for you OP especially with blood involved, but rest assured DD is fine, accidents happen and looking at PPs some will change their nursery plans now thanks to your warning

Feel better :)

A mirror came off a wardrobe door and smashed all over my cot as a baby. Accidents happen, and you can't prevent ever possible bad eventuality so don't beat yourself up. The main thing is your baby will be fine, and so will you once the shock wears off.

You’ve just been unlucky OP, don’t beat yourself up.

My mum has a similar story - heavy antique mirror hanging above my brothers cot. Nan used to babysit him some days and spoilt him by letting him snooze in her arms rather than in the cot. During nap time with nan, the mirror fell into the cot right where his head would have been. Would definitely have killed him as it was so heavy. It’s just not worth it!

Oh what a fright you must have had. Accidents happen and as long as your child is okay and you learn from it, it's fine.
I have always had glass framed pics in my house but my kids are aged 9 to 14. I can't say I've ever considered them being dangerous (past the stage I'm putting them up as I always use strong and stable fixings so they can't move easily) but I did make sure they weren't over heads or over beds etc.
Shelves are going up soon now they're older. I remember a pal swinging off one in another friends house and bringing it down. I was always worried it might happen in our house and we just can't afford all that.
