I mean if you move into a two bed house with one child DON'T go on to have 4 more children. Ffs I mean of course the house has a lack of storage and damp...they PURPOSELY overcrowded it and now they are complaining. I live in a two bed property and I wouldn't bloody dream of trying to fit in 4 more children! It's ridiculous...I wish people would start being bloody accountable for their actions (or lack of). Stories like this really rub me up the wrong way. And I'm not saying you have to be rich to have kids...you don't but don't go complaining to the council and the newspaper when you overbreed and don't fit in your house, it's not their fault!!

This thread won’t last long. But here goes, yes of course it’s responsible and there so no amount of whataboutery that justifies such irresponsible behaviour but of course people will be along with many reasons which absolves the parents of responsibility.

FreddyTheFlute Sun 07-Mar-21 09:28:38

I really believe some people feel entitled to have as many children as they want.

Does that entitlement come with any responsibility to pay for them?

VinterKvinna Sun 07-Mar-21 09:30:41

five, three, two, ten-months

And she said her growing family of four kids - with her fifth child due in just weeks - were bursting out of the two-bed home with no room to store anything.

So she is 8? Months pg with a 10 month old? Bloody hell

SnuggyBuggy Sun 07-Mar-21 09:31:45

The only thing I can think is she'd been led to believe it wouldn't be long before the family would be moved somewhere with more space. I don't get why you'd willingly make life more difficult for yourself.

Theunamedcat Sun 07-Mar-21 09:31:57

He works though?

merryhollybright Sun 07-Mar-21 09:32:40

I agree. And it seems unfair that other people stop having children because they can't afford more, even if they would like to, while people like this just keep going with no care for the consequences.

sst1234 Sun 07-Mar-21 09:37:08

Waiting for the person to call OP goady and list all the reasons why she is a victim and not the architect of her own circumstances. But, but, but whatabout.....

Unmute Sun 07-Mar-21 09:39:56

It sounds like there's a leak, not just damp due to overcrowding, and it should have been sorted without the tenants having to complain to the media. But nobody should have more than 2 kids, even if they have the space and even if they can afford them. There are enough people in the world already.

purplemyrtleface Sun 07-Mar-21 09:40:26

There's no amount of whataboutery that could convince me that they are victims in any way...they created this situation by themselves 100%!

The housing conditions are appalling though and not suitable for a family.full stop. In this case the amount of people is slightly irrelevant - it wouldn't make it ok if it was a couple with 1 baby living in a rat infested house?
The fact that there are lots of children makes it a juicier story for the sun.

BrumBoo Sun 07-Mar-21 09:42:24

I thought I was on Mumsnet, but seem to have accidentally clicked on a Daily Mail comments section instead.....

purplemyrtleface Sun 07-Mar-21 09:46:28

@miserablecat I ageee however shoving 3 children and all of their accessories in one room will only exacerbate the situation to be honest!! 3 beds pushed up against a wall that is damp is hardly going to help the matter.

These stories make me angry
I have 2 children- yes wanted 1 more but weighed up finances firstsad
We and NDN had rats in our gardens over the first lockdown and sorted out the problem ourselves (took a while as they were hardy so and sos but we got rid of them!)
I just don't understand why you would have more children if you are unhappy with the living arrangements/ standard / cost of living you already have?

RaginSpice Sun 07-Mar-21 09:47:56

Well done for reacting exactly how the Sun wanted you to. Really bravo.

Even sharing the link to a deliberately inflammatory article to a popular forum, making the Sun money with the clicks. Or did you think the Sun really had this families interests at heart publishing this...?

Absolutely no one thinks personal responsibility shouldn’t be a thing but what’s your alternative punish the kids for their parents’ decisions? I see no alternatives though just frothing and clickbate.

Please stop dancing to the tune of red tops it’s why they still manage to exist as “newspapers”.

This by the bucket load.

It has never been cheaper or easier to control reproduction and I am sick of people not only looking for a hand out but expecting it but expecting others to fall over themselves to give them what they believe they are entitled to.

SnuggyBuggy Sun 07-Mar-21 09:51:07

I agree, no one deserves to live in a house in such a state as that.

londongirl12 Sun 07-Mar-21 09:51:13

Agree. Don't have kids if you can't afford to house them properly.

Nicely dances around the elephant in the room, and deflects the issue from how they got in this situation in the first place. It’s the sun’s fault, it’s the govt’s fault, no it’s the next door neighbour’s cat’s fault. But not the parents, never the parents.

Januaryissodull Sun 07-Mar-21 09:54:32

Why do people get so angry?

I mean if people want to overcrowd their homes and make their lives more awkward for whatever reason, why does it make you so angry that you'd come online to rant about it?

I get people having lack of sympathy, but I don't understand the anger.

Aren't their more important things in life to spend your energy on?

RaginSpice Sun 07-Mar-21 09:56:03

@sst1234 might want to brush up on your reading skills

Kittykat93 Sun 07-Mar-21 09:57:25

I agree with you op.

traintrain Sun 07-Mar-21 09:59:50

Totally agree OP. The levels of entitlement within our society are staggering. Some people genuinely take no responsibility for their own lives and leave it all to the state to sort out. It breeds poverty and dependence as people will literally throw themselves down and plead 'not my fault!'.

Shoxfordian Sun 07-Mar-21 10:00:03

I completely agree with you op
It’s not as though someone knocked on the door, shoved the kids in then ran off laughing. They chose to have those children knowing their living conditions, knowing their financial situation and clearly it was a mistake. Feel sorry for the kids though
